Maybe someone will give us a 1st for Jamal

Basically, if someone is dumb and gives a first for someone like Jamal, or if someone wants to be Phoenix Suns of old and sells a first round pick. Buying a second round pick or picks might be the most likely way, but even that, you never know.

Our best bet is to use up to the $3 mil allotted for the season to trade for a 2nd.
Don't see any other way we can pick up a 1st unless someone is interested in Crawford and Wilcox for a late 1st.

Well I had this homeristic imaginary scenario that I didn't even bring up cause it was too unrealistic, where Detroit jumped into the top 3 in the lottery and Stanley Johnson fell down to the Hornets or the Heat, who are in win-now-at-all-costs mode and already have a veteran SF, so maybe we could trick them into taking Jamal and an unprotected 2021 pick for Johnson and filler. But Detroit didn't jump into the top 3 and Johnson is not getting past them at 8.
Buying one of Minnesota's early 2nd rounders would be a good bet. They'll probably try to pack them to get another 1st, but if they can't, we should be offering the maximum cash allowed. Depending of how much the Nets are trying to cut costs, we could maybe even buy their 1st at 29, but they'll probably get better offers for it than just cash.
I don't think there's anything too exciting out there even if we manage to get a pick though.

Im praying for my boy Stanley to land in the Heat's lap at 10.
Stan is a good coach and GM, so I think he'll see the positives in what Stanley can bring off the bounce and defensively. However, he loves his shooting and floor spacing.

Crawford for Budinger/31/36

With Crawford only being guaranteed for around $2.5 mil, would a team in the 22-27 range be willing to deal a contract around 5.5-6 mil that they want to get rid of, with the pick for Crawford and waiving Craw as he isn't guaranteed, saving them 2-4 mil or something along those lines?

i think crawford's deal is partially guaranteed for 1.5, not 2.5.
but either way, while it's possible it's pretty much extremely unlikely. the team would need to be up against the hard cap and there's gotta be a million better ways to deal with that than offloading your first rounder.
you would literally have to be as awful a GM as doc rivers to do that to your own team, especially now that the cap boom is so close. first rounders are already economically efficient and they're gonna skyrocket in relative value in the next few years.

young and 27th here

and we'd actually keep Crawford (most likely)

I'd do that.
then I'd try and buy 2 2nd rounders.
use that 1st and one of the 2nds to move up and land RHJ.
you know what.
I'm gonna quit. I dunno why I even made this thread. Doc doesn't play rookies.

we all talk about no assets.
lol, the best asset you can have is a guy on a rookie deal strutting his stuff.
CJ Wilcox is worth absolutely nothing right now and I think that kid is good enough to bring something back to this team.

I'd actually do that and hope we can snag RHJ at 27, but would be content with Christian Wood, RJ Hunter, Tyus Jones and Delon Wright

He's guaranteed for only $1.5 million

My hope is that we buy a 2nd round pick. I know Doc doesn't play rookies, but I think we need some youth. The last thing I want is an aging bench to go along with our core. (I'm not sure if I'm being sarcastic or not) And who knows maybe if we do draft someone they can be half decent.

from now until forever i hope we buy second round picks every single damn year. when you're as rich as ballmer there is no reason not to. buy em, stack em, send them to overseas or d-league. whatever gets them a chance to blossom.
as long as a second-rounder has a non-zero chance of developing into a useful asset it is just plain bad business not to go for it if you have the option. it's especially worse if you have no assets to begin with, like the way we are right now.
second rounder acquisitions are precisely where this team needs to start.
btw i imagine gms like hinkie or even the dodger guys like friedman and co. are looking at this team with relative disgust with our asset usage.
