pierce would have to opt out of a few million and then sign with us for the vet's minimum. the VM would circumvent the cap, which yes, the clippers are over.
the only reason he would do so is if he thinks that him joining the clippers would guarantee him a ring in his last year. a boston guy bringing a championship to LA amidst an ocean of laker fans might be a neat way for him to end his career.
but i think he takes the money and just stays with washington. i wouldn't come here either if doc used the MLE on someone else (hawes) right in my face and asked me to take the veteran's minimum.

Sixers fan trolling the forum...First off I am a big time Clipper fan too.
Just wanted to leave an opinion here....I think had they offered the MLE to Pierce instead of Hawes last summer the team would still be playing right now going in to June probably. I hope this can get worked out and he joins you guys next year for another run. Clippers were awesome to watch this year.

I don't want Paul Pierce.
What he did for Washington was amazing but I doubt he would be able to duplicate that for us with another year of tread on his tires.
We shouldn't be looking to get older either -- we should be looking for a relatively young SF who can defend his position.

I want him but only if we put him on minutes restrictions, 28 mins max during the regular season. There is no doubt that he would bring us much needed production in the playoffs. However, his inclusion does not mean we can ignore our other weaknesses. We are still a couple more pieces away from the team we need to be.

if we could get him for VM, why on earth would you not want him? he won't cost a pick, he won't cost a player currently on the roster, and he won't make any impact on the cap. I mean, consider Paul Pierce as our next season's Hedo. same cost and about the same age, but one can still play.

I hope we keep Barnes. But as a bench player. We were much better when he was a second unit player.

We really need to get younger I don't mind this move if he is moved to the bench. We can't keep relying on older vets to save us.

One season too late if it does happen.

I don't mind adding him as long as he signs for the minimum. As stated earlier, he would have to be on a minute restriction during the season. And if we did get him it would be a quick fix at SF. Honestly though I don't think he's leaving the Wizards unless he decides to retire.

We should be doing a lot of things, we should be looking for two-way superstars at every position.
If we are realistic though, there is not a way in the world for us to add younger pieces other than fringe NBA players and dudes from the D-League that will be out of the rotation by mid-November.
I'd rather our 8th man be Paul Pierce than Hedo. I'd rather he be our 7th man than Austin, and I'd much rather have him as a 6th man than Crawful. If we can do a trade with Crawford+CJ Wilcox for Pierce+Sessions it'd be awesome, we'd have two bench positions covered and still have our mini-MLE to get a big man.

As much as I like Paul Pierce, I agree with a couple of other posters in saying that we need to get younger. However, if Pierce wants to sign for the vet's minimum, that's fine as long as we can surround him with some younger pieces (with our cap situation, it's a lot easier said than done). Pierce pretty much helped get the younger guys in D.C. in place as far as establishing a winning attitude, and I'm sure he can help with some of our guys (particularly the established stars) to tone down on the bitching and moaning.

well, it's like qrich said.
sure you want young 2-way players filling up the 2, 3, and every backup slot possible to supplement dj/cp3/blake. but realistically speaking that's not possible. we'd be LUCKY to get even one in our current situation.
signing paul pierce is not an opportunity cost move so the only real answer, if we have the chance to sign PP, is yes.

I'd prefer 2008 version... 2015 version has a lot of wear and tear...

I'm indifferent. As much as I respect his game, dude is 37 years old. I wouldn't mind him if there are no other options, or as one of the final pieces, but I would rather look at someone who can join the team and be a solid contributor for several seasons. Maybe I've been jaded by the other "star veterans" we've picked up like Butler, Hill, Turk, even Odom 'etc...
