Dwight Howard sold a ton of jerseys in his prime too. Does that mean he's well-liked and respected by NBA fans?

LeBron had the #1 jersey in 2011.

The market for buying shoes, jerseys is obviously not all of NBA fans.

At the time he was.

Once he left Orlando, I'm sure they changed their minds.

KD sold jerseys and shoes before he left OKC.

He continues to sell a lot of them AFTER he joined the Warriors.

No and playoffs ratings, especially for these Finals games, are way up. One figure cited highest since like 2003 for one of the games.

You know, since the NbA has been more competitive most of those years, since KD has only been with the Warriors 2 years.

Ummm...yes...

and...nobody said "faceless parity" is what is best.
esq whatever introduced that straw man and beat it down.

The ratings for Game 1 were down from last year.
I could think of a couple SNAFUs/ a couple of situations that went viral that may have drawn the audience in for Games 2 and 3.
Can't you?

None of which were...OMFG I hate Durant and the Warriors. I want to hate watch them.

How the NBA Finals are defying TV ratings declines (Hint: LeBron James may not be the reason)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/business/wp/2018/06/08/how-the-nba-finals-are-defying-tv-ratings-declines-hint-lebron-james-may-not-be-the-reason/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.cae394201a3c

Clearly both the Warriors and Cavs are Finals draws, with each club offering plenty of reasons to attract viewers. The dynasty vs the legend. Teamwork vs. celebrity. Flawless execution vs Unstoppable dominance. The celebrated champion against, the, well, less embraced champions. (People watch the Warriors to root against them — hey, it still counts.)

The NBA Finals are heading to another stellar ratings year on ABC. And the Warriors and Cavaliers are responsible. Coming into Game 4 Friday night, with Golden State up 3-0, the telecasts have averaged 18 million viewers including streaming platforms.

That continues an improbable four-year streak that began with the first matchup between Stephen Curry’s Warriors and LeBron James’s Cavs in 2015, when total viewership reached the impressive benchmark of 20 million. It was the first time the Finals averaged above 18 million since 2010 and only the third time since ABC took over the series from NBC in 2003.

The numbers only grew from there.

...

The Dubs-LeBron rematch almost didn’t happen this year. Both teams were pushed to seven games in the conference finals by their respective opponents, Houston and Boston. At ABC and ESPN, there was a debate in the halls and the cafeterias: If one 2017 finalist failed to return, what would happen? Which title series would draw better, a Warriors-Celtics contest or a Cavs-Rockets skirmish? Which of the two returning finalists was the active ingredient in strong ratings?

It turns out the debate has a winner. We love to watch LeBron, but we love to watch the Warriors more. Even if it is hate-watching.

A full read shows this finals wont reach the average viewership of the previous finals.

Viewers bored?

Any look at the avg Finals Ratings will show a distinct difference from Cavs-Warriors to the previous years and that Cavs-Warriors has outdone every finals since 1998.

That started in 2015. Has NOTHING to do with Durant.

No but Durant jointing the Warriors didn't cause some big decline.

The RealGM narrative is that KD "ruined" the NBA.

Millions of viewers don't agree.

Which side are you arguing, BTW? That Durant has made no difference positive or negative? Durant helped the Dubs stay on top and become the Evil Empire dynasty everyone hate-watches. Plus many of us hate him, too, because joining GSW was weak. They could very well not get past Houston or even the Cavs without him.

Everyone suspected that the Finals this year would be pretty much a walkover but the ratings are down only 5%, and still much better than they were before the rise of GSW.

BTW, overlooked in all this is that although Bron is a great player and likely the best, let's also credit Steph Curry for revolutionizing the game. His is the #1 selling jersey. You go out to the courts and watch people shooting baskets and everybody's bombing from afar to test themselves against Steph.

KD absolutely ruined the NBA, quality-wise. Ratings =/= quality. Unless you think that whatever generic superhero movie Marvel puts out this month is really high art because it grosses so much.

Not really.

These aren't those same 73-9 Warriors you saw + Durant. The bench is weaker or something.

This is not the Warriors board, if you want to celebrate or whatever, take it there or to the general board. Otherwise, please take your trolling elsewhere, there's no obligation for us to like or appreciate the Warriors, thanks.

Well, what else are they going to do? Celebrate another worthless ring that everyone on the planet has known for the last two years that they were going to win?

MTV accusing others of trolling is something.

You keep saying stupid **** like they ruined the NbA, what do you expect?

NBA is fine. It's your whiny, salty ass who wouldn't know a good thing.

As for OKC, almost every player who leaves becomes much better and has a lot of individual and team success. Why is that?
