RIP former Clipper Sean Rooks

Post#1 » by MrHill » Wed Jun 8, 2016 1:11 am

Ex-Clipper reserve forward/center Sean Rooks passed away today at age of 46; he was recently an assistant coach for the 76ers.

He was one of my favorite players from the early 2000s teams. He also rep for the team after he left, when too ex-Clippers didn't.

Rest in peace...

What? He's still a relatively young man, I wonder what could have happened.

He was just on Twitter a couple of hours before the news was announced. :(

My thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones.

Heart attack. He interviewed for a position with the Knicks earlier today.

Sean Rooks was a very solid Clipper, I remember him on those early 2000's teams...

He initiated one of my all-time favorite Clipper plays:

Ugh that's some crap, those early 2000's teams are what got me hooked into basketball as a kid, it just seems like it was the other day he was running the floor alongside Miles, Q-Rich and the Polish rifle in that awesome 2nd unit :(

I went to a bunch of games in 99/00, tickets on EBay were cheaper than parking and they moved everyone into the lower sections for free (but by the end of the year people were coming.) Wikipedia factoid about Pike (was just confirming he was indeed the Polish Rifle...who else could it have been?)-

"In April 2014 Piatkowski's Group was attempting to buy the L.A. Clippers from Embattled owner Donald T Sterling."

Hopefully we learn more about what happened to Rooks. It seems like it was totally out of the blue, he was interviewing for various positions and was about to be hired. Really sad.

One of my favorite players growing up. I used to go to nearly every Arizona basketball practice on Friday as a kid when Lute had open practices. After practice was over the guys would usually mess around and Rooks would have the equipment guys lower the hoops before they took them down so he could dunk from the foul line.

RIP Wookie

FYI, his son is going to be a redshirt junior at Cal on the basketball team.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

That Odom to Miles dunk had me more excited than anything else basketball wise until we drafted Blake. I was explaining to my wife how even though he had played for what, seven teams? The NBA website and SI showed him in his Clippers jersey. He was a lot like Rhino, never a superstar but someone that the crowd could really cheer for because of their hustle and drive.
