Clippers signed Maurice Speights for 1 year. it is a surpriing signing of this off season by far, for one, none of us heard about us looking into his availability and two, this brings the roster to full 15 members. I feel like Doc knows either Pierce is retiring or one of the rooks aren't making the team. but it is what it is, we got the nipplehead.

How was he not able to sign for more somewhere else in the Summer of Money?
I'm really glad we got him.

erghh
Not a fan of getting another offense only back up C, but I guess you can't pick and choose when you're offering the minimum, so it's ok. Would love to see the awkwardness of the first moment he gets into a locker room with Chris Paul, the slimy prick.

He has at least 1 somewhat noteworthy NBA skill, which is 1 more than I'd thought we get at this point in a backup big.
Maybe Jamal Crawford will even pass to him-

lol we should track the passes they make to each other. I bet it doesn't get to double figures adding the whole season

Thats a MASSIVE pickup for the vet minimum. Speights fills a huge role we have needed as a 3rd big who can stretch the floor. He gets a little shot happy, but this is a big signing.

I always disliked the guy because he seemed quite arrogant- but he is a good shooter and perhaps that arrogance will help the team.
What is the guard rotation now? CP3/Redick/Rivers/Crawford- am I missing anybody?

He shot 38.5% from 3 last year too. Hopefully he doesn't become the next Josh Smith for us. I'm really hoping for the best from him.

I like this signing. The guy who used to heckle him at every Clippers vs Grizzlies or Warriors games is going to be disappointed though.

You guys are gonna love him when he's dropping 20 points in 15 minutes off the bench. When he's on fire, he can literally score with the best of them. Unfortunately, when he's cold he doesn't really offer much in any other regard.
Good get for a vet min, and seems like a good fit on your team. Good luck!

Let's hope he doesn't turn out to be the next Spencer Hawes under Doc, however, he is more mobile so that should not be a problem. Somebody should convince him to put more effort into the defensive side of things through rebounding and rim-protection in order to up his value on this 1-year minimum deal.

Spencer Hawes is the first thought that came to my mind too, but I also think he'll do better as he offers more.
What I'm wondering about, is did GSW lose too much against the signing of KD? They were going to lose some guys anyways, but they really lost a lot of size and versatility.

The main difference is that it takes Hawes forever to get his shot off. Speights has a quicker release and is more self-confident.

Looks like Mo was paying attention to what Cole got paid. Great pickup!

It's not really that Mo is unwilling to pass. It's just that his job is to shoot. His guards set him up for open jumpers and Mo is supposed to take them.

^Speights has considered that "his job" everywhere he's been even if it was not necessarily "his job" lol
It's the minimum, the team needed a backup C that had more experience than college freshman, so this works. He can score, he can rebound, defense, everything else, not so great, and the bench still looks like defense as a whole will be a struggle, but it works.

Current 10-man rotation:
PF Blake Griffin | Brice Johnson
SF Luc Mbah A Moute | Wes Johnson
C DeAndre Jordan | Mo Speights
SG JJ Redick | Jamal Crawford
PG Chris Paul | Austin Rivers
The defense in the 2nd unit will be suspect, but there will be games where Mo and/or Jamal will bring the team back from a double digit deficit in a couple mins...and those moments will be spectacular.
