how many of you will stll be here if the worst outcome happens?
just curious, and frankly, I think it is an honest, defining question for many of us in this forum.
if the Clippers revert back to our old losing ways and the star players on this team opts to leave for greener pasture, will you still be here come 2018 to cheer for this franchise the same way you are now today? not that i am trying to boast my fandom or ostracize the naysayers, but I think it is a legitimate question to ask if CP3, BG, and JJ are all gone and we are showcasing Austin-Jamal-Luc-Bryce-Stone out there come next season with Doc stil at the helm, will you still be here in game threads, cheering for another losing squad?
you guys already know what my answer is, so I won't even bother to state it. I am asking all you fellas out there.

Re: how many of you will stll be here if the worst outcome happens?
Come on now, whatever the worst outcome is, we've been through much worse. We'll probably throw a tantrum and curse everyone and swear we're done, but we'll be here the next morning.
We didn't go nowhere when they let go of Odom and Richardson in consecutive years for literally nothing in exchange, we didn't go nowhere when they drafted Korolev and Thornton with consecutive lottery picks, we didn't go nowhere when Brand left us hanging and were left with a fat Baron and a 30-wins team locked in for half a decade, we didn't go nowhere when Sterling refused to pay Olshey a half-decent salary after he set us to contend for a decade, we didn't go nowhere after several heart-crushing playoff failures, and I know Neddy that you've been here a lot longer than me and can recall a dozen more depressing moments.
Honestly, I know most people here are pessimistic by nature, and reading game threads here you have doubts that people actually enjoy basketball, but this current team has given me most of my favorite moments since I'm a basketball fan. Hell, this start to the season that was going on until just before this weekend was the thing I've enjoyed the most since I was a teenager, other than the Spurs series two years ago. So, if anything, things are looking up currently.
If Paul, Blake and JJ are gone, I'll be looking forward to the Deandre Ayton and Luka Doncic sweepstakes. Even if we were in the situation the Nets are (and we're reaaaally far from that, even on worst case scenario), I'd be looking forward to the new signings and the next win, or whatever. I've already invested too much in this franchise to let it go for a couple of bad seasons or three.

I will cheer for the clippers until I die. I will also draw attention to and inflate every single flaw in our team because I want us to be the best we can.
No matter what happens I'm grateful that Clippers became a contender and achieved some great things like a perfect winning month and overcoming a 27 point deficit against our rivals Memphis. I got to see my two favourite players, CP3 and The Truth play for us.
I may say horrible things about moves this franchise makes but I could say horrible things about most franchises so don't take it personally. This forumn would be a boring place if every only acknowledged the positive aspects. Even if we lose our core, at least we won't be as bad as the Mavs this season!

Look at my name on here. I will always support the Clippers no question. Doesn't matter if we're the champs or the worst team in the league, I'll always be a fan.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

My username says it all. I was a fan when the Clippers were the punchline of professional sports, and I'll still be a fan if/when we have to rebuild. If it comes to that, I will enjoy watching a new team grow and hopefully end the WCF drought.

I've been here on realgm since the Elton Brand era. Been officially a fan since the Odom era and Donald Sterling. What do you think?

the days i remember... I set the alarm at 5.30 am(That's the time clippers plays home games on my country timezone) woke up and watched clippers when they losing games by 30 with starting unit of Baron-Ricky-Al Thornton-Singleton-Camby and still loved that. I usually wake up 8.00 am by the way

Re: how many of you will stll be here if the worst outcome happens?
Winning is fun, and even with the frustrations of not getting the ultimate prize, I still prefer the perennial 55+ win team that's 1 piece and some luck away from being able to win it all. If the team could always keep themselves at that level, of course it would be great.
On the other hand, there is a fun in itself to watching and being part of the process of trying to be good, and then great. That fun is intensified when the team has better management also. I watched when the team sucked, and will watch again if and when they go back to sucking, and with Ballmer instead of Sterling, there's a lot more hope in terms of the timeline for trying to get good again.

Re: how many of you will stll be here if the worst outcome happens?
honestly, back in the day watching terrible team after terrible team:
at the foundation of it all it was pretty relaxing to be able to enjoy an underdog with zero expectations. you know, you just watch sports without all the pressures of playoffs, championships, contending windows, etc. for me it was like, ok the game's on, can we strike lightning? and who are these strange fellows who are sharing my willful misery?
obviously things are much different now and it's not like i'm saying i want the bad days back. but expectations can really change perspective and things definitely aren't as relaxing for me as before.

Re: how many of you will stll be here if the worst outcome happens?
This has been the least enjoyable collection of Clippers I've watched since I became a fan of the team in the early 90's -- at this point, I'll be relieved when this regime is gone (we should have traded Blake 2 years ago anyway...).
Never has a team with so much, accomplished so little.
Clippers teams of the past weren't expected to win anything, so when we finished the season at the bottom of the division there wasn't this over-whelming sense of disappointment that these current Clippers gift us with every April. CP3, Blake, & DJ talk championship going into every season and can't even manage to get out of the 1st-round with any consistency (forget about the 2nd round).
So yea, I'll still be here when these guys are gone, and it'll be a lot more rewarding to watch the star-less Clippers lose in the 1st-round...at least I'll know those guys are doing their best with what they have.

At this point, I'm really starting to believe that the worst outcome is actually giving Chris and Blake the max and keeping this treadmill team together.

Re: how many of you will stll be here if the worst outcome happens?
You know Neddy, when you first posted this I didn't answer for a reason, and that reason may have surprised you. The year I was off work while rehabbing I watched 95% of the games, yet for some reason this year even when I had a chance I barely watched any after the opening month. I stopped coming on here and stopped following the sport the way I had before. I even put my copy of NBA 2K away and brought out the baseball one! In the playoffs, instead of watching game 6, I went out to dinner with my wife and never once suggested checking the score.
A big part is this site. I don't mind the haters, I have dealt with that for decades now. It's the "fans" of this team that truly seem to hate the team that gets to me. It was watching CP3 yell at officials all the time that got to me. Yes, it's overblown how bad it is for us, (tell me an NBA player that thinks they ever committed a foul and that's when you'll finally see a unicorn)
Another big part is the game itself. Pick and role, chuck a 3, fall to the ground because a defender was within 2 feet of you then yell at the ref, either because a call was made or because it wasn't. Go the other way, pick and roll, shoot a 3, fall on the ground...
You and I have talked about when the game was played inside out. I don't hate the way the game is being played now, especially by the Warriors. (Something like 50 games with at least 30 assists as a team. THAT is fun to watch!) But I hate the whiny players. Again I hate the guys that fall on the ground after shooting the ball more than I hate floppers. The players in their luxury suites and customized airplanes that are designed to allow them to travel in style. State of the art medical facilities. Yet what do we hear? "We need to rest" " Players shouldn't play more than 35 minutes a game" "We need to shorten the season" "Eliminate all back to backs"
The whining from the players, the "fans" constantly bashing the team they pretend to support and the offensive flopping had me ready to quit the sport right before my 30th season as a Clippers fan...
Then we hired Jerry West, traded CP3 and signed Milos. I'm not all in like I was a few years ago but I'm getting there. I even played NBA 2K again this week!

You know, DonTommy, I absolutely understand and relate where you are coming from. I too have felt the same in recent years that i stopped driving up to Portland when Clippers came to visit, as it seemed like too much of a hassle to hedge through the traffic and on most nights, rain. in fact my wife has been taking our office manager with her to the games and I've been staying home to watch the kids instead. I think in part because basketball is a young man's game, in part because I have a strong disdain with the way NBA operates, and in part, the game have changed. I still love this team, but I cannot watch any basketball games that doesn't include our Clippers on the court. I don't watch any NCAA March Madness, I don't watch any regular season, or playoff games unless Clippers are playing. same thing with football. I can only watch my Raiders playing. being a health care provider, it is hard to watch a game that consistently produces life time head trauma patients. lack of guaranteed contracts in a sport where injuries are bound to happen, is also another.
you are 100% right, you and I spoke about this many times over the years, that the game of the 80s and 90s were what tuned us in to this game, and this franchise. we used to have much more colorful characters like the Worm, Laimbeer, Parish, highly recognizable ones like Magic, Larry, Kareem, Dominique, MJ and Scottie, coolest nicknames like the Admiral, Gary Grant the General, and yes, players were definitely tougher. tough guys like Oakley made a career out of being like a hockey enforcer. in order to drive in as a guard, you needed to be willing to get knocked down, and out. John Starks comes to mind. the game we grew up on, had great HOF centers. Patrick Ewing, Hakeem, Kareem, and unique centers such as Mark Eaton and Manute Bol. today's game probably has more athletic players than ever before, and with the level of payday these kids get, and the way AAU games groom these kids, they are more... entitled. despite it all tho, I still love my Clippers. always have, and always will.
the game has changed, and the game will always change. even the most traditional, orthodoxy game that is baseball. I have tried to write a petition to remove Rob Manfred for his attempts to change the game. but even baseball today, is a little different game than the one I grew up playing. the game in 82 is not the game played during the 90's steroid era, and that is not the same game that is being played in last 2 seasons with juiced balls. that's why I also watch NPB and KBO, as a means of nostalgia. if you like station to station small ball but with every move calculated and analyzed, try NPB. if you like just mindless, high power offense with no good pitching to be found, KBO is what I recommend. hell, just try the dodger forum. there is only Ranma, Quake, and myself as regulars with a couple of guys who comes around time to time. if you want serenity you will find it there... but i remember as a young man, someone telling me that it's not always what you do for a living but whom you do it with, is what keeps you coming back. yeah there are a ton of trolls, and it seems we just got another fresh one on board, running his mouth up and down every thread, but just ignore them. there are about a dozen or two posters I enjoy reading what they have to say, and I look forward to see those names when I log on every time. you are one of them, my friend.
ehhhhh f it.

Re: how many of you will stll be here if the worst outcome happens?
If you think about it, it's crazy how what was supposed to be the worst possible outcome (losing CP3) has actually reunited and re-energized our fanbase. I'm more excited for the upcoming season than I've been in a long time, and I don't think I'm alone in feeling that way.
From my perspective, we've gone from a team with very few players I liked to one with very few players I dislike. We're not a title contender, but neither was our old team. If we're going to ride the treadmill, I'd rather do it with this squad than the old one.
