Wow $2 billion. Wasn't the original project estimate closer to half that?

So they have to be booking a lot of non basketball events for summer and fall 2024.

Maybe some NCAA Tourney regionals.

I wonder how many events Intuit will snatch from Staples I mean Crypto. Hopefully the Grammy’s will stay there.

I can tell you that at Chase, they have a lot of events with acts which might usually be playing in 5000-seat or smaller venues. Not only acts which used to fill stadiums. In fact I don't think they've had any artist like say the Rolling Stones or Springsteen in their heyday when they used to play at the old Oakland Coliseum (which hosts the A's and used to host the Raiders). That was an outdoors venue.

They advertise them all the time during Warriors games and it's some old acts, makes you wonder who's still paying money to go see musicians in their 60s and 70s. In fact I think the last game they advertised Stevie Nicks, who's 74. Never was a big Fleetwood Mac fan but I have zero interest in seeing Stevie as a solo act or at her age. Not that I'm young but part of her appeal was her beauty.

Crypto will still get its concerts but I see Intuit Dome getting the next All Star Game if LA gets it again. Also I believe all the events that go on at the Forum, which Ballmer also now owns, will move down the street to Intuit

Concerts aren't moving to the Dome. Everything I heard about the Forum is that it's acoustics are great for concerts.

I was in town at that game (Staples 1st season) and had a red-eye flight out. I was worried about the game going to OT and having to leave or stay and miss my flight. The Dome's proximity to LAX would have made it worry free. I was behind the hoop for that final shot that will always be burnt into my memory.

I like that Ballmer stated that the Wall will only be for Clipper fans. There’s gotta be a waiver before you purchase a ticket to that section, no? Like you’re not allowed to wear the opposing team’s jersey. And if you’re not wearing any NBA gear but you’re visibly seen cheering for the other team, you will get kicked out and be forced to move to the regular seats.

Yeah, I like pettiness. So what? Our house, our rules.

I'm thinking you promise not to sell off your tickets. That might be legally enforceable, not on the Gestapo level but at least against ticket brokers and anyone caught selling off to them.

My thinking is he's going to want to make the Intuit Dome the place to be and throw everything under one roof. I don't want to see The Forum torn down but this could be a possibility since Ballmer will own both buildings and The Forum's highly valuable parcel of land could be developed as they're attempting to make "LA Live South" in Inglewood.

I don't see it going anywhere. It is slated to host the Gymnastics for the 2028 Olympics. I think the Forum will be the concert venue and the other activities venue. Going to the Vegas model of "Residency" for a performer allows him to pack the place regularly.

The Dome will have the Clippers offices and practice facility, so they will probably limit the venue to basketball related activities. Maybe Ballmer adds WNBA and/or G League games. Selling the current practice facility can probably net Ballmer enough to cover most of his Forum purchase.

Not that Ballmer needs it but non basketball events don't have to be shared with the league.

I think that would include NCAA tournament games at the stadium.

I'm not sure if teams other than the Warriors have that kind of ownership of a modern stadium, which they're specifically using to host non-basketball events, the revenues from which don't have to be shared with the NBA.

Maybe the Knicks? Bulls? Heat?

Because the easy thing is to get a lot of public money -- threaten to move or plead that they can't compete without a new stadium and they can't build a new stadium without cities and states giving them a financially beneficial arrangement -- to build a new stadium in which case they don't control the venue and can't reap revenues from these non-basketball events.

One of the most shocking things a non-american sports fan experiences when they go to a game in the States is that how fans from both teams sit randomly and together. In Europe and S.America visiting team has a certain allocation of seats, usually 5-10% of capacity. If you as a visitor fan buy ticket to the home teams sections you get denied entry or escorted out. Of course, you can just sit in silence and not wearing your teams colors and that would be totally fine. Only real reason they don't do that here is money. Teams want to sell as many tickets as possible to whoever, and limiting demand could potentially drive ticket prices lower.
Ballmer is so freaking rich that, I highly doubt, he'd care about that. So we might have something unique in American sports in place.

what an exciting game. That alley oop is one of the best in NBA history.

Odom played some terrible defense on that final shot- basically gave Carter a wide open look

Unfortunately, the practice facility is still owned by the Sterlings. They'll have to figure out what to do with it when the Clips leave
