Blake Griffin 3PT Shooting

Post#1 » by og15 » Sun Mar 26, 2017 8:50 pm

I wasn't sure how soon he would start utilizing it, and I wasn't convinced about how capable he was since he just wasn't shooting them much through the season. Just about everyone has commented that for the modern NBA, Blake, especially as a smaller PF would be helped by adding a 3PT shot. Well, now Blake has started utilizing the 3PT shot, and pretty frequently. Interestingly enough his jumpshot many times look even smoother from 3PT range.

Season:
    1.6 3PA / 32.2% 3PT

Okay, so that doesn't look very impressive or say much, so let's break it down and start from when Doc said he wanted him to shoot it more.

Last 22 games:
    2.9 3PA / 36.5% 3PT
At least one 3PT made in 16/22 games
7 straight games with at least a 3PT made (8 including today)

It looks like Blake could still continue to push up the attempts to the 4-5 3PA range. What do you guys think about this?

Keep Working from Beyond the Arc

Post#2 » by Ranma » Sun Mar 26, 2017 9:18 pm

I like it better than him taking his mid-range shots, to be honest. Incorporating a 3-point shot into his arsenal has been something I've been waiting for him to do since his sophomore season in the NBA. I hope he continues to work on his shot from beyond the arc and implement it more into his game while still paying attention to drives to the basket and rebound. And if it's not too much trouble, continue to solidify his defense.

It had to happen eventually, it's actually happening later than I expected. Hopefully, with him being healthy this next summer (fingers crossed) he can work on it like he said he was expecting to last season, and next year it's already another weapon for him. Say what you want about the guy's attitude, but he comes back every summer with an added skill.
