Lawrence Frank was a guest with the commentators at Friday's final SL game. Said Sam Cassell is "a head coach in waiting." A head coach in waiting, mind you, but if anything happens soon, it's surely Sam.

God, I hope not. Giving Sam the job wouldn't be a serious change from the Doc era. We need someone with no ties to Doc at all.

I think with him and Mbah a Moute, we can only offer the minimum at this point, especially since we still have to get Sindarius Thornwell into the fold. I think both Luc and Maurice will shop their services around to get the most they can and if they can't find anything better, will come back to the comfortable situation here.

We have early bird rights on Luc and non-bird rights on Mo, so we can offer both more tham the minimum. I'm guessing we save part of the MLE to sign Thornwell for more than the two-year rookie minimum.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Could a Clipper fan give me a rundown on Luc's 2016-17 season? What can he provide for a team?

Defense, defense and more defense. I like defense, so I liked him a lot. Very consistent defensive player, he can guard the 1-4, but better from the 1-3, though he can do quite well on the undersized 4's. He's not some super run and jump athlete, but the guy just has some excellent lateral quickness, he can keep up with just about every type of perimeter player.

Offensively he's a guy opposing teams will play off of. Very low volume on the 3PT attempts, but he shot it pretty well percentage wise, they were usually quite open. Great cutter and always moving to open space. Him and Paul had a good connection. It's actually funny, a couple of days ago, I was thinking to myself "Paul will probably suggest to Houston that they get Luc", and this happened, interesting. Paul loved Luc defensively, always praising the guy, and he had some interesting confidence in Luc's shooting and would get him the ball to shoot.

Clippers had a situation where he had to start, which isn't the role he should have, but as a rotation / situational defensive player, he's a solid guy. Good teammate too. I'm going to miss him, one of my favorite Clippers over the last couple of seasons.

The Clippers must have something in the works, considering how suddenly they seem to have lost interest in Luc and Mo.

Haven't heard anything about Mo actually, what's going on with him?

I saw someone in the general board say "He's an excellent shooter, excellent cutter, etc." Overall the only thing he's excellent at is defense. Although he has improved his shooting, it's still an issue. https://youtu.be/LBpDkrpnaZo This is an interesting video about how having Luc on the floor was actually a disadvantage on offense. So good defender but really not much else, don't get too excited.

I'm also certain it didn't hurt that he was closer to his new home in Brooklyn.

Would Kill Our Chances with LeBron

Post#580 » by Ranma » Fri Jul 21, 2017 8:10 pm

With all our recent acquisitions primarily not being able to be combined in trade until the end of August, we would theoretically only be able to offer Jordan in a straight-up swap or combine Rivers and W. Johnson in a package for an offer. I'm not saying I'm interested but if we could pull either deal off right now, I'd have to pull the trigger. Or, of course, we could just wait.

Kyrie Irving is eligible for the Designated Player Veteran Extension (DPVE) in the summer of 2018 if he earned All-NBA during the 2017-18 season. The extension would be valued at five-years $219M. He would not be eligible for the same extension if he was traded but could sign (with the team traded to) a five-year $188M contract in 2019-20 when Irving would be a free agent. The current contract of Irving is $18.9M, $20.1M and a player option in 2019-20 for $21.3M. Irving also has a 15% trade bonus valued at $5.8M. The trade bonus would be equally ($2.9M) distributed over the 2017-18 and 2018-19 season if he were traded.
