Duh. The Nets pick is gold. The Cavs pick is garbage. The rest is irrelevant.

Why I never gave a damn what Doc did with our pick in the Chris Paul Era. In fact, genius Ainge turned our first round pick--the one we traded for Doc--into drafting RJ Hunter, who's out of the league and is probably selling pretzels on a corner somewhere in Philadelphia. [Not that that's a bad thing. :D]

If the Clippers deal DJ for garbage like the Cavs pick, it's just to get out from under his contract. At this point, with the whole house of injury cards collapsing, our biggest fear is that DJ WON'T opt out!

DJ will almost certainly opt out. Some team is going to offer him a huge contract

Agreed, he could easily get close to max money. It'd be interesting to see what his worth is on the open market.

Very unlikely we get him but whats the least you guys would accept?

For example, TT+Nets pick+ furture cavs pick for DJ and your pick? Could that even be close? Is there a thought of well we dont even want to pay him anyway?

I don't want to pay DeAndre if he wants max money. I honestly wouldn't want to give him more than what he's making now. (I'm just cheap in general) I would honestly be comfortable with no more than $25 million per year.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Seems pretty odd to go with the "late draft picks don't matter" narrative in a thread about a player we drafted in the 2nd round. What would the downside have been to adding young talent to those Lob City-era teams instead of settling for low-ceiling prospects on purpose (giving Doc a built-in excuse to never play them) or trading the picks for washed-up fossils who never moved the needle? Those teams certainly could have used youth, athleticism, and variance for a relatively low cost.

Why?

DJ, like many other players, is proof that talent can be found outside of the lottery. It's why Doc's insistence on throwing away draft picks for nothing was so aggravating.

That is not the issue. The issue here is throwing away DJ for what is very likely to be nothing, the Cavs pick.

As for the blind squirrel search for late-pick talent, DJ was really no bargain. He was marginal for 2 years, OK for his 3rd, and then we were forced to match GSW's $10M/yr offer [a lot back then] for DJ's 7 points, 8 rebs. By the time Doc brought him out of mediocrity, we had to go overpay him again @ $20M.

As for talent outside the lottery, the odds of getting a championship cornerstone are very long indeed. Everybody you mentioned on the other thread

Yes, we're all aware that you can make tanking sound horrible when you cherrypick the times it didn't work out. Meanwhile, LeBron saved the Cavs, DRob and Duncan saved the Spurs, Wade saved the Heat, Shaq put Orlando on the map, etc., etc.

was a #1 pick except for Wade, a #5. Accusing DieHardFan of "cherrypicking" was unfair. Even the #1 is a heavily mixed bag. Tanking for the lottery is a very chancy business even when you win it [and the odds are you won't].

Cavs could be in LeCruise Mode, make the finals, and still have a low 20s pick.

Of course I want that Brooklyn pick and I’d eat Tristan’s contract to get it tbh.

Yah, so would I. But the Cavs low-20s pick is garbage, esp if Tristan's crap contract comes along.

Jeez, the Cavs traded their 1st rounder just to get rid of Anderson Varejao. I want DJ out but not that bad.

yes you said that already

I'll keep DJ, thanks
those late picks are trash
and leaving DJ out of it, I wouldn't take Tristan Thompson's contract for anything less than the Nets pick anyway
scoring 4 ppg for $17M a year, 3 more years
screw that

Yes, you said that already.

I’m not re-signing DeAndre.

I want the Nets pick but in an absolute jam - something > nothing.

Enjoy your evening.

Trade Rumor of Cavaliers Considering DJ

Post#20 » by Quake Griffin » Mon Nov 27, 2017 1:37 am

The pick in the 20s is something.

I’m concerned with giving our FO multiple opportunities to scout and draft good players.
