Rumor: Clippers Supposedly Offered Griffin for Towns

Without knowing the full details, my initial reaction would be that I would certainly pull the trigger if a straight-up swap was on the table.

Edit: Added opinion poll on rumored trade proposal.

Fire. Doc. Rivers.

KAT is overrated and plays no defense. Trading the face of the franchise in a panic move like this has Doc written all over it. This rumor, along with the disaster that has been the Gallo trade, confirms my fears that Frank running the front office really means that Doc is still making the decisions.

Anyway, Minny would never go for this.

But if they would, Clips would do it in a heartbeat as they should. Trading Blake Griffin for a 22 year old stud who's a career 22/12 with elite 3pt shooting is not a panic move.

I swear man lol

Respective Health Histories

Let's also not forget to factor in the respective health histories of both BG and KAT. Plus, not to mention that Griffin will soon approach the downward trend of his career if he's not already there while Towns is almost certainly going to continue to trend up given that he's not even close to his prime yet and he's on a much more inexpensive contract to boot. This is about as no-brainer as it can get.

Wolves defense over the past 15 games is rated the 6th best and KAT is a big reason for that. He's improved a ton the past few weeks. No way the wolves do this.

Pff, even if this trade went through it would just mean DJ is most likely getting dumped for pennies on the dollar, so the REAL trade would much be Blake/DJ for KAT + some bad contract + some mid-1st round picks at best(which I think is an awful return, but of course most people won't realize this until it's too late, as usual)

And if you're going to trade Blake/DJ less than a year after letting CP3 walk, WHY LET CP3 LEAVE IN THE FIRST PLACE?!

Does this franchise realize the goal of making trades is to actually WIN a trade? I don't think they've actually won a trade since Neil was GM.

Even if you happen to believe KAT is a better player than DJ/Blake(I don't, but this is debatable), the very fact that you have your your longest-tenured multiple All-Stars in trade rumors within days of each others screams lack of continuity and stability. This revolving door thing is a terrible look for the franchise.

Wolves would never trade KAT... I'd love to know who brewed up this in the meth lab.

At least we’re thinking somewhere in the right direction. I’m just not in love with KAT.

The idea that Griffin will lead us to a championship is laughable. No problem with us exploring options.

lol that's clickbait crap. Scotto wouldn't have a clue even if they actually talked about it.

Shouts out to Jim Petersen, the Wolves' commentator who does know his stuff, calling this out for the BS that it is

Even if they were in a bad place when this rumor came out, and they wanted to trade him then, it would have been a bad move for Minny.

Austin for Carmelo? That's a legend of questionable veracity. Even if true, Carmelo's sal cap load would have been an insurmountable obstacle with CP @ $210M, DJ still drawing $25M/yr, and LeBron and Kawhi still left to pay. We dodged a bullet on that one.

And forget Carmelo and Towns anyway, LOL. CP/LeBron/Kawhi would be enough to start talking GOAT. :onfire:

I'm sure you're right.

But as you know, on this board no statement is too absurd to ever be sure.

2 weeks after this post, Blake was traded.

And people thought I was being a front office shill when I supported the the Blake-Tobias trade the day it happened.

Let me put on my TMZ hat.

I see KAT at Target in NoHo buying new household items, such as pots, pans, trash can etc.

I yell Clipper Nation as he is leaving, he turns around, gives me a nod, and leaves.

West allegedly offered Blake for KAT.

KAT and Wolves are having issues.

With all that said, it’s fun to imagine the possibilities. The Wolves expressed interest in Clippers center DeAndre Jordan during the season, so perhaps a deal could be struck around Towns for DJ and both Clippers first-rounders. Or what if Towns is the solution to Portland, Toronto, or Washington breaking up their backcourts? C.J. McCollum or Bradley Beal would be intriguing fits next to Butler, and they’re both signed long term.

There’s no such thing as an untouchable in the NBA, but Towns probably won’t be traded this summer—nor should he be. There isn’t any realistic deal out there that makes the Wolves better now or in the future. If the Wolves need to shake things up, there are other changes that ownership could make before trading away one of the game’s most promising players.
