Tobias' Comparisons to LeBron and Melo
I like how the comparison of LeBron James to Tobias Harris is supposed to be an insult to James but actually a compliment for Harris. Plus, the comparison to Carmelo Anthony has proven outdated...in favor of Harris as well.
You just have to feel for Pistons fans right now for not only losing Tobias and being saddled with Blake Griffin, but also missing out on Donovan Mitchell in last year's draft. Mitchell popped up on my radar only shortly afterwards in my post-draft reading material. I liked his energy and athleticism, but admittedly, there was no way I would have considered him for the Clippers had we had a lottery selection in 2017 given that I viewed him more as an undersized shooting guard despite his extraordinary length and my preference for size at the position. I would have likely considered Harry Giles, Luke Kennard, Justin Jackson, OG Anunoby and maybe T.J. Leaf or Jordan Bell in that area of the draft board. Giles very likely would have been my personal choice despite his injury concerns given his upside, size and skills.

OKC Missed Out
Paul George is obviously the better player, but you have to think having Blake Griffin return as the prodigal son to his hometown with a long-term contract might be worth more than renting George for a season that went nowhere and looks to continue its spiraling descent with MelonHead still in OKC. I also suspect BG and Westbrook would form a better tandem in Oklahoma City than BG and Drummond in Detroit even if that doesn't say much at all really.

Their rankings do take into account missed games. I'm excited to see how Blake does this coming season.
Love re-reading parts of this thread.
A lot of emotion in the responses, certainly, and understandable. It was a Doc and Frank move, Blake and Drummond wouldn't allow the pick to be a lottery pick, the value wasn't good, etc, etc

VIDEO: NBA Theory on Blake Griffin's Career
The author of the video points to the evolution of the power forward position to explain Blake Griffin's devaluation as a player. He maintains that the position has changed to the point where today's 4 either plays more like a 3 or a 5. While I wished Griffin had spent more time in the 5 spot, especially in small-ball lineups, his alligator arms and lack of defensive instincts weren't conducive for that while his ball-handling, passing ability and shooting stroke made him more of a fit as a big 3 if he had employed more discipline into those particular aspects of his game.
This evolution of the 4 spot allowed a hybrid player like Tobias Harris to be just as valuable, if not more, than Griffin in today's NBA. Thank goodness Jerry West and the rest of the front office saw that before anyone else--including myself--in benefiting from the trade of Griffin. Heck, I wasn't even among those happy to have signed Griffin to that extension in the first place.
The author further states that Griffin, among others, have benefited from a theoretical period of a shallow talent pool. I'm not sure I quite buy such a theory but other players named as beneficiaries of such a period are John Wall, DeMar DeRozan, Gordon Haywood and even Paul George.
