Good. I'd like to keep him around for the long haul. I do wonder if this is to up his trade value though.

Lou Williams, Clippers nearing extension before trade deadlineExtension discussions between guard Lou Williams and the LA Clippers have gathered significant momentum, and a new contract is within reach before the NBA trade deadline Thursday afternoon, league sources told ESPN.
Rival teams were increasingly resigned late Tuesday night that Williams, 31, was exiting the trade market and returning to the Clippers on a multiyear contract, league sources said.
Because of Williams' stature as one of the most pursued players on the trade market, his looming commitment to remain with the Clippers could serve as an impetus to get a sluggish trade deadline into gear Wednesday.
Losing Williams off the trade market will likely intensify the pursuit for Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyreke Evans, whom several teams had been separately pursuing. Memphis is trying to get a first-round pick for Evans, and Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are among the teams most interested in acquiring Evans.

Can any team give Lou more than that?

Even if Lou looks at this as boosting his trade value, does he have incentive to sign it?

Lou is the one guy I actually want to keep on the team as long as the extension is reasonable. Even if it's a ploy to boost his trade value, it's a smart move either way.

I'm fine to keep Lou as well. I thought he was all but gone once we traded Blake away. Looks like we have a chance to actually keep him. I'm ok if we do end up trading him, just hope to get something valuable for Lou.

Unless this is just a leverage play to get a better return in a trade, this makes no sense. I have no idea what this front office is trying to do. There doesn't seem to be any logical plan here at all.

This is a savvy front office in LA. Was talking it through with some people last night, but here is what I see it as:
Clippers might not have liked the market out there for Lou at the deadline. Hes an expiring contract, and potentially would be getting a bit more than the MLE this summer on the market.
FO decides that instead of dealing him now, they can extend him and reset his market this summer. Can make a push for the playoffs and then reset his market and start fielding offers this summer. Additionally, having him locked in for (what will probably be just over the MLE) gives them some leverage this summer. Teams can trade a matching salary and and asset for Lou AND still use their full MLE on someone else (or split it) this summer.
This is not the type of move a Doc-lead organization would have made.

We can't trade Lou now until August, so there goes that idea of taking offers at the draft. This is exactly the kind of emotional signing GM Doc would make, and the exact type of player he'd squander our cap flexibility on.
I just really don't understand what this front office is trying to do. Every decision they've made lately seems like it will do nothing but keep us trapped in mediocrity.

That might be Jerry West's plan: pretend the Clippers are back to who they used to be.
Then
BAM! Surprise behind-the-curtains move that nobody saw coming.
Let's be real: we were so wrapped up on DeAndre and Lou as trade bait, we didn't see the Griffin trade coming at all.

I have no idea how you got that out of this deal. This is market value, but for two seasons. He got slightly more than the MLE. Agree to disagree.
