OT: Mark Cuban: To Tank or not to Tank

Post#1 » by esqtvd » Tue Feb 20, 2018 9:50 pm

not tanking so much as trying not to win so many games

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/249028/Mark-Cuban-Admits-Telling-Mavericks-Losing-Is-Our-Best-Option

Mark Cuban admitted to telling players on the Mavericks that losing games at this point in the season represents the best course for the franchise.

“I’m probably not supposed to say this, but, like, I just had dinner with a bunch of our guys the other night and here we are, you know, we weren’t competing for the playoffs I was like, ‘Look, losing is our best option. Adam [Silver] would hate hearing that, but I at least sat down and I explained it to them. And I explained what our plans were going to be this summer, that we’re not going to tank again, this was, like, a year-and-a-half tanking and that was too brutal for me. But being transparent, I think that’s the key to being kind of a players owner and having stability."

In on the Mavs picking 14th.

Shot out to Cuban for helping us move up in the lottery.

Well, I'm fine with Moderator mkwest re-labeling this OT, but it was intended to re-open "tanking" re Clips.

But thanks, Mr. West, for keeping such a tight rein on our board.

To the point, I can't imagine Mr. Ballmer even slightly suggesting to his team that losing a single game is in the organization's best interest.

I was hoping our board would agree with that.

Tanking is dishonorable. What Cuban said is dishonorable. Steve Ballmer would never say anything like that. Cuban is garbage. Our owner is for real.

Now lets see if Cuban's big mouth can get him out of this double mess he has on his hands.

LMAO @ sugarcoating his team's current futility. He signed big free agents like Matthews and Barnes. You weren't trying to rebuild. You just failed to build a playoff contender.

There's nothing wrong with tanking. There is something wrong with telling a group of 12-15 alpha males to lose games.

There's everything wrong with how he handled the sexual and domestic abuse in his work environment.

Mavericks went after every free agent they could and kept getting denied, even DJ ended up denying them, it's been a struggle, lol.

I would never want to watch my team to ever tank. I'd much rather be the team that fights for a playoff spot than tanks for a "chance" to pick a 19 year old who may or may not be the next superstar.

I'm really hoping this all blows up in the Lakers' faces.
