Doc will be back next season

Another year of Ballmer using the injury excuse to avoid fixing the biggest problem with this organization. So much for the "Hardcore Clippers" he promised when he bought the team. This is the Norv/AJ Chargers all over again.
Next season is already ruined now regardless of the moves we make in the offseason. The next five seasons, actually, since there's no way we don't give him an extension now.

The hate (and lack of acknowledging a great year by Doc) is strong with this one.

The real question is: will Austin be back as well?

Cant see Doc being here without his son.
Didn’t Doc say something about being unsure about coming back?

I'm more frustrated with the fact that we get one more season of reading same old posts from you.

The only way Doc is out is that there are some lucrative coaching jobs out there this off-season... he would structure another out and take his son with him...
Frank is Doc's hire, before cutting Doc, Ballmer has to cut Frank first...

Hmm...well, if Ballmer was advised by West, etc that Doc needed to be fired, it is likely that he would do so, but who knows. It seems like Doc passed the test for them this season, which of course is understandable, and probably him being on contract still was a factor. If we believe Jerry West is a good talent and organization evaluator, then we also have to believe that Doc's coaching job really was good if he is retaining his job as it was said that he was under evaluation this season
Generally if a team wants to fire a coach they want to do it now so that they can have him be in the loop on the draft, etc, so him staying for now seems to imply he is staying for next season, but stranger things have happened.

The logical course for the Clips would be for Doc to coach this coming year on the last year of his contract since DJ, Austin and Wes will all likely opt in to their final years. I see no advantage in bringing in another coach and another system that will have growing pains. The strategy for 2018-19 should simply be to tread water and not make a hash of what remains of the winning culture of the franchise. Come 2019-20, we will have $60M in open cap space. The best thing would be to have as much flexibility as possible, including who's the coach.
The question looming is whether Doc will put up with lame duck status or push his way out. Like DJ said, he wants to be where he's wanted. Spending next season on Death Row will suck. If there's no contract extension offered, Doc might do the same thing he did in Boston--spend the summer "deliberating" whether or not he's coming back, the only leverage he really has.
http://www.espn.com/boston/nba/story/_/id/9427400/doc-rivers-danny-ainge-offer-slightly-different-versions-coach-exit-boston-celtics-los-angeles-clippers* At some point in late May or early June, Rivers and Ainge sat down again, and this is where things get murky. Rivers admitted he remained indecisive, but asked Ainge what he could do to help the Celtics. "That's what started everything," said Rivers. "[Ainge said,] 'You can make a decision or there are other teams that we can make a deal with and get something for you. Just leaving doesn't help us. And that's how this thing came about. We agreed upon it together. This is not me walking into a room and saying, 'I want to go to the Clippers.'"
* Ainge seemingly ruled out the idea of allowing Rivers to go to an in-division rival like Brooklyn, but Los Angeles "piqued" Rivers' interest, particularly amid his concerns about whether his time in Boston had run its course. Said Ainge: "We had a conversation, him and I, as friends and partners over the last nine years, and a guy that I really trust, we had a conversation that we discussed the possibility of him trying to get the Clippers job. There were other teams that were interested in hiring Doc, [but] we didn't allow any of them to talk to Doc that had inquired. But the Clippers were one that intrigued him a little bit."
* By mid-June reports began to surface that there was "strong mutual interest" between Rivers and the Clippers. Soon after, Boston and Los Angeles began what became very public negotiations...

I've wanted a more accomplished talent evaluator serving in the GM role for the Clippers. While I don't mind having Frank in the front office since he's taken to the role fairly well, he's still learning on the job given his inexperience. I understand why he's publicly going to bat for Doc since Doc was the one who brought him into the organization and helped position him in his current gig, but if Frank is dead set on keeping Doc at all cost, then he can join Doc on their way out the door.
Even with Frank onboard and Jerry West in the advisory role, I've maintained previously that we still need more notable talent evaluators in the front office as Mike Winger is a salary cap expert and Trent Redden is known for his administrative abilities more so than for his talent evaluation.

The scouting department was also overhauled, well, actually created, lol, I'm not really worried about that aspect anymore.

you'd think that pulling 4 rabbits out of a hat this season would be enough for people but nah guess not

Yeah, scouting/talent evaluation is not a problem anymore. Finding gems like Ty and Sin is the sign of a front office that knows how to find talent.
The main problems with our team are coaching and nepotism. Keeping Doc doesn't solve either of those problems.

Couldn't disagree more. This upcoming season is practically the ideal situation to bring in a new coach. It's another rebuilding year, so the new coach can focus on installing their system and developing our young talent without any expectations of winning now.
Furthermore, we have two lottery picks joining our roster next season. They're going to need to be coached and developed. Doc isn't going to do that because he'll be too busy showcasing Austin.
The strategy for 2018-19 should simply be to tread water and not make a hash of what remains of the winning culture of the franchise.
"Treading water" is not a strategy. It's the absence of a strategy. Adding two talented young players from the lottery isn't "treading water," anyway.
Come 2019-20, we will have $60M in open cap space. The best thing would be to have as much flexibility as possible, including who's the coach.
We can't let future free agents who aren't guaranteed to sign here dictate every decision we make. Just look at how that's worked out for the Mavs and the Lakers.
The question looming is whether Doc will put up with lame duck status or push his way out.
Even as a lame duck, Doc will make $10 million, live in LA and get to coach his son. I'd be very surprised if he walks away from that.

We shall see. a) Doc is a proud man [lame-duck status is an indignity] and b) if there are options, he already proved in Boston he'll take them.
What’s more, multiple sources said two current head coaches — Doc Rivers of the Los Angeles Clippers and Mike Budenholzer of Atlanta – have more than a passing interest in the Bucks’ job and coaching the NBA’s brightest young star in Giannis Antetokounmpo.
...
As for Rivers, there has been persistent rumors he’ll be leaving the Clippers after the season. Rivers is still a beloved figure in Milwaukee after having been an All-American guard at Marquette University and would undoubtedly create a buzz as the Bucks move into a new arena next season.”

I’m in on a new coach. Doc’s level of interest in coming back is pushing me over the top.
I’d actually love to have a new coach implement a new system, coach up our 2 new rookies and lay some foundation/ clear the deck for a run at the 2019 free agent class.
While I think Doc is a good coach and did a good job this year, I worry if the stench of having him (and Austin) around scares off a Klay Thompson or Kawhi or Kyrie or even Middleton.

It's a good argument although Austin was not an issue this year. Neither is it clear that he and/or Doc would even be in the picture next summer.
A new coach could create more problems than he'd solve. OTOH, at the moment, by leaving him dangle, Ballmer looks like he's easing/pushing Doc out. If there's another job out there for Doc, he'd be stupid not to go get it. Read the story how he got out of Boston.

A net-negative player getting 34 guaranteed minutes per game because he's the coach's son IS an issue. Especially when there was already the perception of nepotism. And also when that perception of nepotism had played a role in dividing the Clippers' locker room (as reported by Arnovitz).
When even the media is finally taking notice of this situation, there's no way that players around the league aren't aware of it.
Neither is it clear that he and/or Doc would even be in the picture next summer.
If five years of declining win totals and declining postseason success weren't enough for Ballmer to move on from Doc, why would a sixth year be any different?
A new coach could create more problems than he'd solve.
That's just a thought-terminating cliché. Meanwhile, we can point to the real problems our current coach has created that he's not solving.
OTOH, at the moment, by leaving him dangle, Ballmer looks like he's easing/pushing Doc out.
If Ballmer wanted Doc out, he wouldn't have to "leave hm dangling." He could just fire him.

That's an outdated article from before Aldridge reported that Doc would be back with the Clippers next season.
