It's a bloody shame that the Clippers couldn't win a single championship during his long and dedicated tenure with the franchise.

Probably was firing Bowen that forced him into this decision.

We should sign another Luc Mbah Moute level breh for him.
Ralph deserves to see 37 wins in his last season, not 35.

Ralph is a legend. One of the greatest announcers ever. Clipper games just won't be the same without a well-timed "oh me, oh my!" or "BINGOOOOOO!"

The big questions now are: who's going to replace him, and will the Clippers retire his microphone like the Lakers did for Chick Hearn?

We better retire his mic ala Chick Hearn.

It sucks to know that he'll be hanging it up, and it sucks even more because I always wanted him to be able to celebrate at least one championship during his tenure here. I do wonder if they will honor him (retirement ceremony) at STAPLES or will they wait until the new arena is opened. He's 80 btw. He received a star on the walk of fame a little while back. I look forward to seeing him in Springfield soon.

A Finals Gift?

Knowing that the Clippers will be teetering between eligibility and elimination throughout the season until the last game, with the latter being the most likeliest of outcomes, what do you say about Ralph Lawler calling an NBA Finals game. He's been a Clipper trooper through and through, having suffered through every single form of loss imaginable - he should retire on a high note. Whether the Clippers make the playoffs or not, Lawler deserves a retirement present. Warriors, Rockets, Lakers, I don't give one iota who comes out of the west: so long as Lawler gets just one Finals game, I'll be happy for him. It will also put a smile on Clipper Nation that a fellow Clipper is finally in the Finals. Maybe the Clippers as a whole will never get to the Finals, but at least with Lawler, it will inspire the franchise that they will have their day in the sun.

Alot of teams don't win championships though.. I will say that it would've been good if the Sterling era was simply way better than it was while he called games. He did play by play for a lot of paper bag seasons

The other thread was started on the general NBA board and someone moved it here. So if there was any confusion as to why there were two threads or non-Clipper fans commenting, that is why.

Highlighted from above article:

Tom Hoffarth wrote:Appreciate we’re in a time when humility is a lost art, loyalty should matter and extraordinary examples of how to navigate through negativity deserves affirmation (...) But let’s measure quality over quantity. Effectiveness in a major media market despite any inadvertent shade cast by (Chick) Hearn and the Lakers. Not getting caught up in a mis-perception that the Clippers’ previous failures frame a broadcaster’s legacy. If this was an online fan campaign, Ralph Lawler might wreck the internet.

Hoffarth implies that because the Clippers do not have a pretty history - in fact, it's hideous - Lawler might have a pretty tough time making the Hall Of Fame. If quality, championships, are the requisite to an early nomination, I would forgive Doc River's competitive intent. They're working with a weak hand - no faces, no Aces, not even a ten, just a bunch of two's, each suit representing a unique skill. The Clippers would have to make a miraculous Finals run, if not win the championship outright, for the Naismith Hall Of Fame judges to reconsider Lawler's recognition. No team in NBA history has ever won a championship without an All-Star on the roster, and it's probably going to stay that way.

At least the Clippers have something worth fighting for.
