Maybe Thibs is better as a coordinator and maybe he would work again as a coordinator.

I think he is done as a HC.

Very good analogy. Many coordinators wash out as head coaches but return to the level of their competence [see the Peter Principle]. Although a wretched HC, Romeo Crennel still has a coordinator job and was back in the playoffs again this year.

I'm glad Doc is tapping talent wherever he can find it--and for free at that. If Doc's real talent is as a "soother," there's nothing wrong with that in the 21st century NBA--in fact it's the rarer talent. Credit Thibs all you want for the title in Boston but although Thibs may have some sort of genius, soothing ain't it.

Benefiting from Thibs

Thibodeau is definitely a better defensive coordinator than head coach much like Mike Martz was as offensive coordinator for the Rams as opposed to when he was their head coach. I suspected that Doc would reach out to him when the Jimmy Butler situation started in Minnesota, so it's great to see it come to fruition.

One of the good things about Doc is that his cronyism encompasses a wide network, so it's refreshing that we might actually benefit from it this time. If so, it will hopefully last longer than Kevin Garnett's time with the team.
