Congratulations on a great season including some brilliant personnel moves.

But it also probably means Doc isn’t leaving the Clippers any time soon unless voluntarily.

It wasn’t that long ago that he didn’t have many fans here, not just as The final day on personnel but also coaching.

You could credit some great moves the last two seasons, getting maybe better of the two trades involving both CP3 and Blake.

But regardless, Rivers has gotten the most out of the new players who’ve come and gone.

If he hasn’t earned another extension, he probably will soon enough. Doc is already one of the highest paid coaches in the NBA. If Clippers get one or two big free agents their ceiling and expectations will go way up.

Maybe better to lock him in now?

He’s a good coach and he should remain our coach.

He was extended during the season right after the Lakers started floating rumors they wanted him....because their organization sucks and they are about as subtle as a gun.

After Doc ran the team into the ground, the criticisms of him and outright requests for him to be fired were valid. It was wise for Ballmer to ignore the noise and remember who Doc was before he was a terrible, 0 stars out of 5 POBO.

I’m also glad Doc took on the task of developing Shai and Sham. I thought he’d balk at the idea of doing that. I thought he wanted nothing to do with the project of getting the Post Lob City Clippers up off the mat and developing a champ. I honestly thought he’d walk. So....kudos to him for taking on the task. Shai and Sham could have ended up with a handful of nothing coaches who would have probably stalled their development in some way.

Personally, I hope Doc’s work with the rookies changes how we approach this forever. They stay in on the draft. They stay developing talent. And they NEVER EVER use superstars getting into their 30s and “win now” as an excuse to run our franchise into the ground again....

My opinion hasn't changed since the meltdown against Houston a few years ago, and I haven't seen any reason to change my mind.

Yes, our team overachieved well past any reasonable expectations this year, and yes, Doc deserves some credit for that. But here's the catch. Doc's done this exact same thing before, his first year in Orlando when he won Coach of the Year with a team full of journeymen. That following offseason, the Magic went out and got T-Mac and Hill. And then Doc proceeded to underachieve in the playoffs just like he did with our Lob City teams. He even blew a 3-1 series lead against Detroit just like he did against Houston.

Considering his track record, why should we trust that Doc can get it done in the playoffs once he has the stars? Even the 2008 Celtics' title run was underwhelming when you consider the sheer level of talent they had relative to the rest of the league. And unlike those Celtics, we're not in the 2000s Eastern Conference, so just getting to the Finals is far from a sure thing. It requires great coaching, consistency, focus, and killer instinct.

Assuming we have the type of offseason we're all hoping for, I need to see the team play up to its talent level in the playoffs, not blow series leads against or get dragged to Game 7 by inferior opponents, and at least make the WCF in order to change my opinion. If the playoff results look like Lob City all over again, we have to move on.

This is true.

It’s easy to play the underdog/ little engine that could role. A role that would grow old after this season.

Expectations are a different animal.

You're more right than you know, Quake. Expectations are not only the enemy of happiness, they're the enemy of excellence.

That's why Doc's message has been--Be Us. Be ourselves, trust in what got us here. Don't try to be what you're not--be more of who and what you are.

Expectations destroyed the CP-BG era, sapped all of the joy out of it. Now, CP and BG and JJ and DJ are all looking back on that era with regret. Not that they didn't win more in the playoffs, but that they didn't take the time to enjoy what they'll look back on as the best time in their careers, and didn't have the sense to treasure it.

And make the best of it. Which they really didn't.

So sure, "Fire Doc." Just more of the same. But he has the good sense to treasure it, and so will every guy in the locker room here, even though a lot of them know they won't be back.




Even our reliable Doc haters, who were dragged kicking and screaming to the playoffs, even they admit it was worth not tanking, well worth giving up what will be the 20th pick in the draft. [The 20th pick. BFD.]

To me the Ballmer Era is already great. We made the playoffs while rebuilding, and Doc deserves the lion's share of the credit. And as for him being a championship coach, well, he's got the ring to prove it.

If Doc is so great, why are you trying so hard to keep the expectations low? Shouldn't he be able to meet higher expectations?

If we get Kawhi, Durant, or especially both, there's no excuse for the same old Lob City playoff results.

There are no perfect coaches. Usually decision makers make a lot of people unhappy at some point. I have been tough on some coaches. I understand wanting other moves by a coach but this may have been one of Doc's best seasons. I can not imagine what more he could have done this season with the hand he was dealt.
