Re: Second Chances
I'd take a flyer on Howard for $3 million. Having him play a few minutes behind Zubac and Harrell is a great way to find if he's serious about changing or is still the same guy. If he's the same just cut his ass after a month. Not a big investment but it could pay off later

People like Jokic or ad.
entire league has concerns on how to defend those guys, you can add Embiid to that list too. It's not worth bringing in a guy like Howard. Not now. We have to give Zubac and to a lesser extent Kabengele to play and show themselves, until at least the allstar break, before signing a guy like Howard or Noah.
True. Either will probably be available in January either to be signed or traded for cheap.

How in the hell does Dwight fit into this teams culture? Just say no.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Now, he’s strictly an interior player at a position where we have Zubac and Trezz. If he could play some at PF, it would help. But Dwight has never had the floordive/Everready trait … even when he was a legit top talent, he relied on his physical gifts rather than his motor and attitude. Now that he’s lost ability where he used to excel, he will have to rely on his brains, motor, and attitude. Being a bench player means you have to go in play hard immediately and be ready at any time. Do those sound like things Dwight Howard could (or would) do? I gotta say no.
Noah, on the other hand, was always a member of the floorburn team. And his play last year, while downscaled comapred to his peak, was still quite good and, IMO, better in the areas we’d want. He’s more mobile and passes (much much) better than Dwight at this point. He was kind of a force in his 13 post all-star break games—11 and 8 with nearly 3.5 assists and a block in just over 21 minutes a game coming off the bench. Unlike Dwight, I think he could still slot in against big PFs at times. I’m pretty sure that he’d be willing to try it, at least. Noah not only fits in better with our culture, I think he’s shown himself more willing to come off the bench and contribute and just play hard.
Would Noah really be pleased being a third stringer? Whichever guy has to be content no playing every game
I would take Noah in a heartbeat over Dwight, they are both washed but Noah has always been a scrapper whereas Dwight is only claiming now to have done a 180 and is willing to be one.
Whether Noah wants more minutes I have no idea, but if he's available and takes an offer from us then I guess that means he's accepting a role. Whatever backup big we end up with, if they play well I think they will earn decent situational minutes and not just feel like a sideline cheerleader.

Basketball is a team sport. The problem with Melo is that he's always been about himself. Yeah, his former teammates rave about him as a person, but his own play on the court screams selfish, inefficient basketball. Melo and D-Ho are two of the most pathetic has-beens that have ever donned NBA uniforms.

Heh, and people say Ramona is not still Jeannie's mouthpiece... classic leak sequence, they put out there they're interested in Dwight, watch everyone's reaction be a bunch of laughs, so they have Ramona inform us that they're not really that interested. Still more interested in winning the news cycle trophy than the substance of the moves they make.
Oh my, am I glad there's such a stark contrast between their front office and ours.

I think Dwight will decide not to go there the hate from Laker fans is strong toward him.

Re: Second Chances
Now we're talking...
Melo has been a Clipper target ever since Griffin's ejection to the Golden State Warriors in Christmas 2013. The rumors resurfaced after Griffin's altercation with ex-friend Matias Testi.
Doc also has interest in the guy, for being the very man that ended River's run in Boston by eliminating his Celtics from the 2013 NBA Playoffs. This move would reek of vengeance and payback... had Doc still been coach/GM/father. Melo's ticket to Clipper Nation is Chauncey Billups, his former teammate with the Nuggets who is also their Clipper TV analyst guy.
Iman Shumpert has a better chance at making it than Melo. Shumpert has never made an All-Star Game, but did win a ring with the 2016 Cavaliers, helping James et. al. come back from a 3-1 Finals deficit to break the Cleveland Sports Curse and defeat the 73-9 Warriors. His coach was Tyronn Lue, and the Clippers have him back as an assistant. And given the seismic culture change within the franchise and the league, Clippers are keying in on role players who exemplify good character and are also Good Samaritans.
