Reminds me a lot of the Raptors last year, where the team was mostly composed of mid-late 1st rounders, 2nd rounders and undrafted guys. That's how you build a tough team with a chip on the shoulder.

More Importantly

None of the players behind their dynamic duo of Leonard and George have made the All-Star Game. Lou Williams is the closest one, but he's resigned to his Sixth Man fate (Side note: now with a dynamic duo, his chances of making one increases). When Leonard was traded to Raptors, there already was an All-Star guy in Kyle Lowry, then later they traded for another one in Marc Gasol.

I would say the comparisons between Clippers and Raptors are slightly off in that Leonard signed up with a role player team, who asked for Clippers to trade for a superstar per his condition to signing with them.

Good post, Wammy.

More or less in order, I think Kawhi ALMOST signed with the Clippers even without the trade, but frankly, leading the Raptors to the title almost killed him. And that was with a former All-Star in Lowry and an aged one in Gasol. I like Gallo, but he was never even an All-Star and is historically fragile. I like Trezz and Lou, but back in Toronto, I had 3-time champions in Pau and Danny Green and that Siakam kid is pretty good too.

Just couldn't go through that again, as much as he wanted to get home to SoCal, and as much as he liked the Clippers org. But as he said in the interviews, once the Clippers landed PG, the decision was easy. Not even close. EVERY box was checked.
