The addition of Johnson will give the Clippers a True Big 3. Leonard, George and Johnson are all multiple time All-Stars, unlike Paul-Griffin-Jordan, where Jordan only made one appearance. However, Johnson might not start because of his position: guard-ward (shooting guard-small forward hybrid).

Also today...

https://thunderousintentions.com/2019/07/28/okc-thunder-waive-donte-grantham/

Grantham failed to deliver in Vegas at the Summer League where a player with his experience should’ve feasted on the competition. OKC played him in all five contests presumably giving him every opportunity to create a reason for the varsity team to sign him to a roster spot or retain him on a two-way contract. Instead, Sam Presti announced the Thunder are releasing him and waiving his contract.

Instead, he faltered particularly from deep where he shot an anemic 25.0 percent on 5 for 20 attempts and wasn’t much better from the field (34.3 percent). Overall he averaged 7.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and a steal in 22.2 minutes on average in those five contests.

Where Grantham may have witnessed his opportunity slip was most of his minutes in Vegas came against bench units in four of the five games yet he only broke double digits (11) in one outing.

But he's 6'8" and shot 37% on 3s in G-League. New Clippers paradigm: No more Thornwells or Wallaces, tweeners with no outside shot.

Joe Johnson did not do very well with Houston. He shot 28% 3PT his last 55 games in the NBA and couldn't guard a position well.

I did get a big LOL at Joe Johnson completing a big three. Wammy, sometimes you just post stuff to get people riled up.

Why is the clippers trying so hard to avoid having a playmaking PG?

Doc's only ring came with a rondo as a play maker.

Kawhi won with playmaking PGs.

They got a playmaker in lou william but that's not his natural inclination .

The guy is 38 years old... I just don't see how a guy in the twilight of his career is going to be adding much to the team. I know he was just named the MVP of Big 3, but that's not that far off from saying Montrezl had 46 points in a Drew League game. He's no Vince Carter either (not that I am particularly interested in Carter)...

Slightly off topic, something is just weird about Joakim Noah... On paper he seems like he would be an amazing fit... We are a little thin in the front court, and Noah seems to have that dog mentality that everyone else has on the team... Signing him would also prevent any competitors from picking him up... there has to be something going on behind the scenes. My only thought is maybe FO thinks he might want too much playing time, and will be a locker issue if he racks up a bunch of DNPs...

When the Clippers had Lob City, the small forward rotation was bad. Real bad. Bad to the point Doc had to have his point guards, shooting guards and power forwards pretend to be a small forward. The only way they could get a true small forward was to trade Paul or Griffin, but they feared returning to the dark days if they did. Clippers cared too much about their newfound NBA status over doing the right thing. You can thank Doc as GM for that as well.

True small forwards, especially two-way ones, are rare and one in a million. With so many forwards having the ability to play make, Clippers learned the hard way (via losing Paul and Griffin) that it's easier for positions 2 through 5 to pretend to be a 1 than it is for 1s, 2s, and 4s to pretend to be a 3.
