Ivica Zubac - The long lost Gasol brother

When I squint my mind's eye, projecting what Ivica Zubac will look like, I see Pau Gasol with a Skyhook.
Anyone else, just me?

What he lacks in strength he makes up for with touch around the rim.

Scouting Zubac -- What is his ceiling, what's his floor, areas of concern, etc?

Adria Gasol is actually the 3rd Gasol brother who secured a spot on UCLA's basketball team solely on his last name. The kid never showed any real interest in basketball and only parlayed a half-measured effort after witnessing the fame and success showered upon his more notable siblings.

We saw later that Gallo was missing rotations and was a step to slow most of the series. Doc wanted to man an example and used Zubac because he’s young and he trusted Harrell more anyway. To not even use him with the bench to keep his reps going was confusing.

Anyway new season

Clipper +/- after 14 games

PG 11.7
Kawhi 9.1
Bev 5.1
Trezz 5.0
Green 2.1
Patterson 1.7
Harkless 1.5
Zubac 1.2
Lou 0.9
Shamet 0.8
McGruder -0.6

pretty close to the minutes distribution except for Lou and Shamet

Zubac is getting better every game but at the moment his great advanced stats are also due to Doc playing him only in favorable matchups

He's definitely evolving. Starting to love his game when he plays that is. His shot blocking is really starting to become a thing which is great for us

He needs to play 20+ minutes every game. Let him improve his game and give Trezz more rest

This is it in a nutshell, I like Zubac a lot and am okay with this given that we have the Zu/Harrell tandem. If Zubac was getting less minutes for Marcin Gortat that would be of course a totally different matter.

I think we should see his minutes gradually increase over the course of the season, a lot just depends on how this new team comes together. When KL and PG are both playing, we have less need for Lou/Harrell's combo offense and can probably use Zu's defensive presence more.

I think he could be a pretty effective pick-and-pop shooter. I know we all hate the midrange these days, but the potential is there for him. He just has to be able to translate his good free throw shooting to open catch-and-shoots. I care a lot less about the gaudy 3-point shooting, because in reality the team needs him to play closer to the basket majority of the time.

Think about the statement you quoted that Doc is using Zubac in favorable situations by playing him against starters? That plus/minus crap gets played out and fans generally dismiss the stat because it’s often used without context.

Don’t let that guy troll you into that BS. Doc has always been goofy with rotations and the back to back showed more than anything Harrell shouldn’t be playing major minutes. Zubac needs to continue to get stronger as a finisher

argumentum ad populum, a logical fallacy

and many teams are starting placeholder centers and going smallball later, esp at crunchtime
