Clippers Among 2019-20 Top-100 Rankings

Post#1 » by Ranma » Tue Sep 10, 2019 6:02 am

With 3 players already in the bottom half of Sports Illustrated's top-100 rankings, the Clippers have 5 of the league's most coveted players on their roster along with Shams and Green being notable snubs. Adding Iguodala would bring that total to at least 6 with Shamet making a strong case for himself to be included.

JaMychal Green, Clippers: The stretch in Green’s game feels more advantageous now than ever. A few years of spacing out offense to the three-point line has helped him settle into the role, settling his jumper and showing when to drive. Green is quietly a pretty crucial player for the Clippers this season. His contributions also might be too quiet for the purposes of the Top 100.

Landry Shamet, Clippers: If given the reps, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see Shamet become one of the top three-point shooters in the game over the next few years. His particular brand of shooting tends to scale well; anyone who’s able to live in the mid-40s, percentage-wise, while taking shots on the move can act as a system all their own. We just need to see that side of Shamet’s game leveraged a bit further (or the rest of his game filled out a bit more) to qualify as one of the league’s top players.

It is ridiculous that Giannis is #1 and Kawhi is #2. Kawhi beat Giannis in the ECF and these idiots still think Giannis is better than him

I think Giannis is so overrated that he shouldn't be in top 5 if KD was healthy. His lack of shooting, his attack the paint like a bull with overrated playmaking like he was a Lebron is too big flaws. Defensively he is no Leonard healthy or Draymond.

ESPN, SI are silly they are talking about Giannis like he is 20,8 years younger than Kawhi, not only 3 years, 7 seasons without much better shooting than Simmons! Kawhi coming from his worst injury of his career, one good leg dominated him easily. This is disrespect to Kawhi, Lebron, Curry...

Real top 5 imo:

Leonard
KD(when healthy)
Lebron
Curry

Love Kawhi, but I am not going to hate on Giannis. The guy is a phenomenal talent. KD is a great shooter and playmaker, but he will NEVER be anything close to the defender that Giannis is. Giannis is one of the rare talents that has all the skills needed to get the rare quadruple double or even achieve the first ever quintuple double. The guy is one of the best two way players in the game.

The Raptors beating the Bucks had more to do with a better overall roster and bench production.

What has KD defence to do with Giannis being better than great alltime scorer like KD? Lebron is worse defender than KD but no one thinks Giannis is Lebron level....

Kawhi dominated Giannis while injured there is no excuse for that. Bucks had the better roleplayers, team offence all season. Middleton,Brogdon,Lopez etc helped him win 60 games. Kawhi could trust only Siakam scoring help every game.

You cant reward for him potential that is not the way you become nr.1 player. Giannis is so far another Harden,Westbrook regular season hero who doesnt win his team PO series. Pistons,Celtics wins are not the goal.

Instead of skipping games, I'd like to see us try keeping everyone at 30 mpg or less

more experimenting with combinations
more maintenance and development minutes for the back of the bench

SI's write-up on the Kawhi pick...

    - "Leonard has gone toe to toe with every other player on this team in the playoffs, and he has wins against all of them. He unceremoniously ended LeBron’s time with the Heat, and then prevented a Warriors three-peat during his lone season with the Raptors. Kawhi’s two-way brilliance is suffocating for opponents. He practically willed himself into something like an efficient imitation of Kobe on offense, and he remains the ultimate trump card on the defensive end, someone who can match up with and credibly slow down any player in the league—including all his contemporaries on this All-Decade Team.

While Leonard may not have had the sustained brilliance as the other players on this team, his success both as a whole as well as against his peers is impossible to ignore. It’s possible, maybe even likely, that the best of Kawhi is yet to come. As he’s shown when healthy and fully engaged, there’s no challenge he hasn’t been able to meet."

At first, I questioned whether Kawhi belonged on the All-2010's 1st Team, bth. But I can appreciate this^ rationale.

Kawhi Among SI's Five Headliners for Next Decade

Jeremy Woo, Sports Illustrated (9/20/19)
Kawhi Leonard

Over the years, Leonard has cemented himself as the league’s premier playoff closer, most feared defender, and has made an exceedingly strong case as the NBA’s best all-around player. At 28, he’s the oldest player on this list, but you’d be remiss to not consider the possibility his dominance might come with a longer tail than your average star.

Leonard comes with an injury history, but he’s well-positioned to win big with the Clippers, who will take every opportunity to help extend his prime and keep his body working when it really matters. He is deathly efficient, keeps things enviably simple, and can swing a game on either side of the ball in a dangerously short amount of time. These things are all factual, and as the Raptors have proven, a strong supporting cast anchored by a healthy Leonard can contend.

With the Clippers now situated near the top of a wide-open Western Conference, there’s no better opportunity for Leonard to prolong his individual dominance and compete for more championships. A motivated Paul George will help Leonard shoulder the load, abetted by a deep cast of role players for the time being, in a situation that should be wildly attractive to free agents for the foreseeable future. You might find people willing to bet against Leonard leaving his mark across not one, but two decades—you just won’t find them here.
