Zone defense

Seems like we're running it more every game. Doc/kawhi had made some comments about it pretty much saying it takes teams out of their rhythm and what they want to run.

If anyone's been watching Lakers basketball, the Lakers don't do really well against the zone. The heat gave them fits but they didn't have the personnel the clippers have. Our weakness is that we don't have elite rebounders so that can hurt us if we do it too much.

LeBron was frustrated with it. Lakers don't really have shooters that can keep players honest. I wonder how much of the zone will we see on Christmas and against houston tonight.

I'm glad you mentioned this. So I've always been skeptical of zone. Especially when you have to deal with lobs. The thing is, our coaching staff seems to be on it. I prefer man to man defense, especially when you have a team where you can switch all day. Zone will work on most teams, but I wonder about the elite ones. Do the lakers really have trouble against zone defense? I felt like they wouldn't because of all the cuts and lobs they implement into their gameplan.

Also not taking much out of that Heat game, AD wasn't playing.

Yes they do. They did the same thing the sixers did against Miami last night . They moved ad to the foul line but it took them three qtrs to do that.

In the second half, they were running in transition so it didn't allow the defense to set up and they scored that way. It was frustrating them.

The second game at home vs they had issues with it also but figured it out late there. The clippers have better defenders that can switch.

Yeah man, I don't think that video inspired much confidence in zone lol. I don't hate a lot of things, but as a defender I just hate zone because I would rather just guard someone and switch all day. I'm a good on and off ball defender and a lot of times I get lost on zone. Could just be me though. I mean, I'd like to see how much more effective it would be with our personnel on the Lakers I guess. Christmas day would be a good time to test it out.

Watch the highlights of the game and watch them when they faced the Mavs. I'm not saying doc will run it exclusively or a lot but to throw looks particularly against the second unit could slow the Lakers down. We have better defenders that can switch anything and recover faster.

I don't expect them to do it when. LeBron is in the game.

The Miami games were very close. At Miami they only won because Miami collapsed. 113-110 with Miami getting the last shot opportunity.

Doc said they went zone against the Bulls because we were exhausted and it's easier physically to settle back in zone. I think its effectiveness is more as a surprise tactic--teams need to be ready in the playoffs in case somebody throws it at them, sort of like when Rocky started boxing Apollo right-handed [Rocky was a southpaw].

But it's a stunt. You can't make your living off it, or everybody would be doing it full time.

Ohh got you. Yeah as a tactic to pull out situationally, it makes sense. I wouldn't appreciate it as much if it were the go-to defensive scheme.
