BREAKING: REGGIE JACKSON TO SIGN WITH CLIPS AFTER BUYOUT

Post#1 » by esqtvd » Tue Feb 18, 2020 10:46 pm

Woj said it
it must be true

https://www.si.com/nba/clippers/news/la-clippers-sign-reggie-jackson

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Jackson and the Detroit Pistons have agreed to a contract buyout — and he intends to sign with L.A. upon clearing waivers.

Jackson, 29, is a solid scorer and playmaker that fulfills a need for the Clippers. With Patrick Beverley's health in question (and of serious importance) down the stretch of the season, adding another ball-handler that can get some run with the starters or the second unit was a priority.

    ...

Jackson has appeared in just 14 games for the Pistons this season. The veteran guard suffered a back injury in the team's second game, only recently making his return on January 22. He's missed just one game since then, averaging 16.6 points, 5.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds over the last 12 contests.

His addition will alleviate some of the pressure placed on Landry Shamet and Lou Williams, who have been called upon to start at point guard several times this season. Unlike Shamet and Williams, Jackson is a natural floor general and has played the position in each of his nine seasons in the NBA.

ADD WOJ: beat out the Lakers again LOL

Jackson had become the highest-impact player available in the buyout marketplace and had been a target of the Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers.

Jackson, 29, will play a significant role on the Clippers' second unit, where coach Doc Rivers is eager to implement Jackson's playmaking and scoring abilities on a roster that could be the NBA's deepest.

Jackson was completing the final season of a five-year, $80 million contract with the Pistons. The Pistons and Jackson's agent, Aaron Mintz of CAA Sports, completed the buyout terms earlier Tuesday before reaching an agreement with the Clippers on Tuesday afternoon.

Jackson has been a longtime friend with Clippers star Paul George and had long hoped to play with him, sources said.

This could be a really good signing, if Reggie buys in and accepts a smaller role. Hopefully this means we'll never have to see McGruder again outside of garbage time.

McGruder wasn't bad lol, sometimes just having a role player who can handle the ball, defend, and get some shots here helps more than having a household name who discombobulates the offense. That being said, definitely a plus addition.

Let's hope we never have to watch Lou start at point guard again lol

true fact

Strengths: It all starts with Jackson’s arms. Despite being 6’3, his incredible 7 foot wingspan allows him to play significantly taller … Good foot speed and length make Jackson a terrific defender … Good knowledge of the game and typically plays under control in Al Skinner’s conservative flex offense … Although not tremendously quick, he has terrific athleticism, capable of throwing down earth-shattering dunks …

Still got 707 minutes. Shows how desperate we've been to keep bodies on the floor. The alternatives were Robinson and the G leaguers. He was better than Sindarius and Ty, although not by much. Last year in Miami he shot 40%/and 35% but this year his shot never came around [38%/27%].

He was worth the low risk/low return gamble and did serve as a placeholder until buyout season. We anticipated losing minutes at guard with PG and Kawhi but Pat Bev and Sham's injuries really put the pressure on. McGruder ended up with 16 mpg, when his place on the roster suggested he should be racking up DNPs [like Patterson].

This can be good as long as he's put in the right role and accepts that role. It also means the fan favorite McGruder will be playing less, sigh....

I think this is an insurance against PG missing more time.

We can roll with Bev, Shamet, Kawhi, Morris, Zubac starting 5 with Reggie, Lou, Green and Harrel being the 2nd unit.
If Bev is out too, and he has been down with injuries a lot this year, he can slide into the starting 5. This is a very good pickup for us.

I'm glad mcgruder has been regulated to the back of the bench. At least I'm hoping. I just hope Reggie buys in. That's the same thing I said about Morris. Talent doesn't concern me. What concerns me is buying in. Morris did and I believe Reggie will do to. He's friends with PG.

McGruder has been awful. Contributes very little on offense, and Doc seems to think he's some shutdown defender, which he isn't.

Wouldn't be surprised if we end up signing Noah as a hail Mary or TT ends up being waived and signs with the clippers.

I wouldn't want Noah simply because of his injury. He's bound to get injured. Haven't even been six months since his surgery but I guess if they can't add anything else, he's better than nothing. Might as well let him rehab until the Po season

The fact that he had to pull a predraft assessment instead of going off recent years is telling of Reggie's current abilities lol.

He's been hampered by injuries. He's not even the same Reggie two years ago.

We're getting a 3rd string reliever that should help with patbev being out and someone to help us get through the regular season.

He doesn't tip the scale in any direction. He's just not mcgruder so that helps. Plus he's a good playmaker. Still a good pick up, considering what we had in mcgruder.

He and P George are tight. A few of us had hoped that would parlay into having a chance to sign George, dreams n all.

Someone mentioned his length already and it is significant. Allows for some real clever finishing around the trees and for some clever handles in traffic. You will wanna smack him around a bit too often for over dribbling and his blackhole factor is between moderate and minimal but it does exist. He also led the league in clutch scoring for about 95% of the '16 season (Curry) which was our only playoff experience of the last decade. Injuries riddled him and when they didn't he was a very good ball player. You've done well.

Edit:
Am now picturing a call between George and RJ with PG tampering a bit but it'd be funny prolly. " Man, i'll throw in a million too, take the flippin buyout" type stuff.
Will you fools ever realize that when the cameras are on and the microphones are hot, they are Lying to you! Lying to illicit a prescribed reaction, to easier manipulate you.

I really like this move. This guy run nba level offense at least. More trustworty than any alternative we had.

I just remember his Denver game from couple weeks ago, he balled Detroit won. Reggie being in 9th-10th guy shouldn't harm as he brings inconsistencies time to time.

How many roster spots left? We need an insurance big imo. I feel center is where we are weak at the most. Two backup centers.

Sadly, as a piston fan, he could possibly be motivated. Which is pathetic cause he basically hustled us for a huge contract. Hes never been a good defender but at his best he was one of the best clutch players in the league believe it or not. Can definitely hit shots. Pick and roll is where he thrives
