Would certainly be interesting, I can't see him fairing worse than Doc Rivers did. Only problem is I think Phil could be a little stubborn and would stick to playing the triangle even if it doesn't work.

i mean, the triangle would be fantastic for this team because it currently does not have a playmaking point guard. so i'd rather the team commit to it simply because of the personnel at hand.

The more we see only Ty Lue's name mentioned and not any other candidates, the more nervous I am that the Clippers will actually hire him.

On one hand, I suppose it could be his agent leaking all this stuff to the media to drive his price up, but my gut tells me that's just wishful thinking. On the other hand, he shouldn't even be a candidate at all. Why are we interviewing a clone of the coach we just fired? :noway:

Ty Lue seems to be getting questioned

As the search for coach gets longer each day, my belief that someone from outside will be hired instead of Lue&Cassell increases. Jerry and Steve looking the candidates thoroughly.

I am not a fan of him. I think that he left a great situation in Memphis and have not done great in Sacramento.

I got one that would sure get a no to but what about lionel Hollins from la Lakers. He turned a struggling Memphis Grizzlies into a pretty decent playoff team. In addition, it seems like he knows how to take a team and turn them around.

Another one would be Larry brown...

I'd be alright with Joerger. He's gotten mixed reviews, but I can't blame him for the Sacramento gig. There were so many things going on with that organization that I doubt any other coach would've done any better.

While the team needs a coach with a decent amount of experience, I wouldn't want a coach that's too old and possibly too stubborn. Hollins is 66, and Larry Brown is 80... I also recall reading some article where Hollins was anti-analytics or something... That is definitely not going to fly with Ballmer.

This link is pretty comprehensive. I actually wouldn't mind taking a chance on an experienced assistant coach from a successful organization.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29263878/top-nba-head-coach-prospects-tyronn-lue-tom-thibodeau-chris-finch

Ime Udoka spent seven years under Pop.

Some assistant coach named Chris Finch has a similar resume to Nick Nurse (coached overseas, G-League, and NBA), and from what I've read, seems to be a gifted offensive coach. Most recently, he was an assistant under Gentry, who did pretty good as the offensive coordinator when he was under Doc.

I already mentioned I'd be okay with Joerger, and this was in the link above:

Last September, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski asked Erik Spoelstra and Doc Rivers to name an opposing head coach for whom it was particularly tough to prepare. Both coaches cited Dave Joerger for his creativity and game management.

For me, my top 3 would be Joerger, Udoka, and Finch. If none of them are hired, I hope we go with a surprise hiring. The more I read up on Lue, the more I don't want him. And as much as I like Cassell, he just seems too much of buddy-buddy with the players, and I'm afraid with that type of relationship, he'll be too soft and players might not take him seriously. I'd go with Billups over Cassell... I remember reading how he completely changed the culture of the Nuggets when he joined the team. Also, he's had plenty of time to watch all the mistakes that Doc made, so hopefully he can come in with a fresh set of eyes.

i wouldn't be concerned about sam cassell. this is the guy who lit up chris kaman so badly, the refs gave him a T lol.

there was also a story i heard from charles barkely once where he said something like "if you put sam cassell on the same team as bird, jordan, and other clutch legends, cassell would be the one holding the ball in crunch time AND telling those guys who was gonna get the last shot"

so i'm ok with sam cassell, for sure. the guy is a legit leader and i am not concerned about his ability to be critically truthful.

what i'd be far more concerned about is a first time coach with no assistant experience at all. for this reason, chauncey billups is relatively further down my list.

Agree about Joerger. He’s a good Xs and Os guy—and he’s also flexible. That 2019 Kings team was better on paper, IMO, and they were kinda like we were—hanging in there. That was/is an incredibly young team that didn’t have a defined leader, which meant more of the credit went to the coaching staff when the team performed well. And he did great with the Grizz too; they only regressed in 2016 because of injuries.

Hollins was a good coach, but he’s in his mid-60-s and he’s not *that* good. I’d rather go with Udoka; not head coaching experience, but a terrific resume coming and understanding the current game and players. I like Wes Unseld Jr. for the same reason.

ime udoka is an interesting candidate to me. he's got a lot of experience on the bench, and he seems to be universally well-regarded as a future HC. those are the guys that i think tend to make the most sense, though of course they don't always work out.

but i imagine he's also a player's legend as well because of his fabled locker room brawl story. so i think he's a guy that will always have the respect of his players.

You know what, I rather have Mike Miller or Kenny Atkinson as coach because of the fact that they are good X and I guys and can coach and develop talent

I am not sure about Dave Joerger. I really like Mike Miller because he was dealt a bad hand at New York Knicks and kept it respectable though the whole season.

If Lue ends up with the Clippers and Chauncey Billups doesn’t land one of the other head coaching jobs (New Orleans, Houston, Indiana), then Billups could end up as Lue’s lead assistant. Several prominent members of the Clippers organization hold Billups in high regard, per sources. Billups was the club’s color analyst on television last season but, per ESPN, is interested in coaching.

It looks like if we go with Lue, Billups may join the staff, and I'm guessing Cassell might remain as well (assuming he doesn't get an offer elsewhere). A coaching staff of Lue, Cassell, and Billups... I kind of like that. I see Cassell and Billups challenging Lue if he does a bad job, where as with Doc, I think they were probably afraid to challenge him.

I'd rather have Billups as the head coach than Lue. I just don't trust Lue- not saying he's a bad coach, but I don't think he did that great a job with Cleveland- I think their success was almost entirely attributable to LeBron's greatness and Kyrie's clutch performances

This coaching search is becoming an unmitigated disaster. Mike Brown and Ty Lue are NOT the best this team can do. It's like they're looking for the least inspiring candidates possible who no fanbase wants their team to hire.

I always had a nagging feeling that the Clippers' absurd loyalty to Doc despite all of his failures was a sign that they also couldn't be trusted not to screw up any future coaching decisions. I really hope I'm not proven right about this.

If I had pockets as deep as Ballmer, I would just go get John Calipari, make him the highest paid coach in all of sports and give him a 5-year contract.
This has to be a statement move that would get respect and awe from the media, players and other owners.

Believe the team is doing it’s due diligence but the clock is ticking. This lakers vs Heat series will go 5 very likely and we need a coach to enter the offseason
