The front office failed to convince Kawhi to buy in, be patient and trust the process like the Heat did with Jimmy Butler. They also clearly exuded desperation and allowed the Thunder to fleece them. That trade may very well have closed our window before it even began.
It would have been nice, but it is what it is.
Kawhi and Butler are clearly different personalities. Kawhi is reserved, but him making demands to his teams is nothing new, it is well documented. He also gets a lot of benefit of the doubt because of his previous success. He was just as bad as George in Game 7. In the 2nd half of game 6 he had 11 pts on 3/10 FG, but the narrative is more about George playing poorly and not much about Kawhi playing poorly too.
