He may be the best contract in basketball, still 2 years left on his current deal at just under $2M per.
Hopefully Boston can just pan out similarly and be a poor man's Mann, having a couple of cost-controlled young rotation players would be a big boost to our future.

Just a great move--both for us and Mann. Also looks good to players around the league. Clippers aren't dicking around. You're young and show promise, we'll give you an MLE level extension before it's realized.

Mann set the template for these new draftees.

Not all of them are going to pan out, but the downside is absolutely minimal and the upside is having a good young player at team-friendly salary for at least a few years.

Great news! It's nice to see his development get rewarded.

That also makes him a potential trade candidate. Morris, Kennard + Mann is gonna be able to match a max player salary in 2023-24 season, if needed.

Very nice, with his development arc, that looks like it will still be bargain in those seasons, especially more with a likely higher cap

Wow I just checked our draft history. Last time we had a 2nd round draft pick that actually turned into a legit NBA player, it was DeAndre Jordan.

The "decider" Doc was perhaps not grinding tape late into the evening?
(Too much on his plate... I do feel like Ballmer has fully arrived and has accelerated through the learning curve. He has poured in staff and resources behind the scenes (where no salary cap can stop him). Feels like our front office is beyond competent, wants of nothing, leaves no stone unturned and generates interesting chances. The new stadium, and the better schedule that comes with it, is going to level-up even further.)

Great move by the team. Boston, Keon Johnson, and maybe Scrubb are the next projects

Of course Doc wasn't grinding tape on Bumf*** St. at 4 AM with a team to run--with the smallest and lowest-paid front office in the NBA under Sterling. What he DID do as PoBO is replace the entire scouting staff and then hire his own replacement in Lawrence Frank. He would have preferred to keep the title and a little more authority but his duties were left basically unchanged when Ballmer elevated Frank.
Aside from the glaringly obvious pick of Shai and hitting a longshot in T-Mann, Ballmer's zillion-dollar FO has achieved little of note itself, wasting the #13 Jerome Robinson pick and swapping a FRP [#19] for the useless Kabengele. Doc's highest picks were at #25 [Bullock, Brice] and a #28 [Wilcox], well into the dice roll range.
It appears true this FO leaves no stone unturned but drafting Fi
21 slots ahead of his FSU teammate Mann at #48 is hardly a sign of genius. It was just dumb, followed by some dumb luck.
We shall hope 2021 was the year they finally got it right. So far Keon Johnson at #21 is a project [29%/20% in preseason] and although Boston showed some spark, he still only shot 34%/20%. These guys are a long way away; neither showed me what I saw in Mann from Day One.

I mean—I’m glad for Sham, who seems like a totally decent guy. But I seriously question that contract. Mann started behind Sham, and had caught and passed Landry up by the later part of last season. And that’s the thing, good and bad, about Sham. At this point, it seems pretty clear that you know what he is. He shoots at a good, not great percentage and doesn’t get to the line a whole lot and is an average scorer. He’s a mediocre passer, but doesn’t make many bad passes. He doesn’t rebound well. He’s a below average defender. He’s been the same player for the last 3 years, with little if anything you can point at as an area of substantial growth or improvement. He’s the epitome of a filler player—a non-needle mover.
Mann is still improving and in the last 12 games he played last year, against two of the best teams in the league, he was far better and more impactful than Sham ever has been or, IMO, ever will be. It is what it is.

So they can't pay Ayton, but they're willing to blow a ton of money on an average player like Shamet? Okay.

After watching Tyrese Maxey play tonight, I realized he was the #21 pick in 2020 draft. #19 was Saddiq Bey. That picked belonged to us before we traded it to get Kabengele in 2019 draft night. What a shame.

I think they will pursue a similar strategy with Coffey this off-season. We already have him next year, so figure out a good extension on top of that that gives him security and us some cap relief.
