Next Mann up mentality.
This sucks but honestly as a long time fan, I am used to this kind of BS.

Re: Norman Powell - Broken Foot
Can we please get a new medical/training staff in here? This is ridiculous.
And no, before people start up with the excuse that it was just a freak injury, Norm was cleared to go back in, which could have made things worse. This staff has zero credibility on how they deal with players' injuries.

Jasen Powell must have some dirt on Ballmer, there's no other reasonable explanation for why he's still employed.

How long before he's ruled out for the season next? That seems to be how our medical staff operates.

Non-surgical at this time probably means in 3 weeks we'll hear that he needs surgery and done for season

I have no reason to speak well of Jasen Powell but I don't think the Head Trainer makes these determinations--we have an entire medical staff of MDs, orthopods
Powell is the Head Chief Executive of Taping Ankles and Jockstrap Hygiene

This!
These ankles and knees are worth millions. I don't think players simply go into games with a thumbs up from the trainer.

Just an FYI, the head athletic trainer is not the one that says player______ should or should not get surgery, this or that player is fit to play, etc. It's always odd to me that people go at Jason Powell when it comes to some of these injuries as it relates to surgery decisions, etc, that's above his pay grade. This doesn't mean Powell is good or bad at his job, but his job is not diagnosing and treating those serious injuries.
There would be other people, seemingly unnamed people to go after when it comes to those kinds of decisions. I'm not sure who said Normal Powell could go back on the court though, that one might be a decision Powell can make, but I don't know. That would generally also be based on signs like swelling, bruising and the the feeling and desire of the player.
I have a friend with a similar Human Kinetics degree to Powell and who is a trainer and has worked for professional basketball and hockey, and he definitely does not make those big decisions. He is not the one interpreting x-rays or MRI's or making decisions about whether surgery is needed or not.

Back in the worst of the old Sterling days... the presence, work, bedside-manner of J Powell was one of the only things players seem to remark on as positive about being on the Clippers...

Re: Norman Powell - Broken Foot
there were multiple instances of players coming over from other organizations saying the clips training staff was the best they'd ever had. at least one that came from Phoenix as well, which was lauded as being exceptional in preserving Steve Nash.
honestly i kinda just roll my eyes when people blame injuries on the staff. this stuff just happens. and as og said it's not their call to decide surgery. they do their best to determine if a player is fit to re enter a game but some things you don't make a conclusion on until after further symptoms or evaluations, which occur after the game.
additionally, the fans perspective on what a good training staff is vs a bad one is even more limited and murky than that of coaches. and very, very few people can properly evaluate THOSE guys to begin with. so to me the best we have is the surrounding context, which in this case is the word of the players and the overall decision making of the organization.
maybe ask yourselves this: if ballmer has thus far gone to great lengths to acquire what he thinks are the best personnel for this organization that he can get, then why keep powell on if he's slumming it?
add that into what players historically have said about the staff here and use that to judge, imo. not anything else.

It sucks he got injured but the Clippers don't need him till next season anyways. He just needs to heal up and be ready for next year's championship run with Leonard and George.

There’s no timetable at this time. Lue said pre-game that he’s hopeful he can play again this season.

From our own Dr. Shap, he will probably be in a cast at least a month, and then in some kind of walking boot after that. In short, the rest of his 2022 NBA season is in jeopardy.

That's pretty standard with foot fractures that do not require surgery. If it was just a toe, he could have been back in 4-6 weeks. My last ankle fracture, I was on a boot for a month, but started walking without boot in 6 weeks; however, did not run or put excessive weight until after 12 weeks.

Another tweet reply he says he doesn’t have any cases of surgery being required.
Andrew Grief, who deserves the credit for posting this on his page, says at the time of Norm’s news we had 25 games left.
Seems there might be hope he could return this season.
