Clips eyeing Myles Turner ahead of LAL?

"To match Turner's $18 million (with up to $20 million with incentives), the Clippers need to send at least $14.3 million in outgoing salary. For a deal to happen quickly, one of Norman Powell, Luke Kennard, Reggie Jackson, Morris or Covington would need to go to Indiana, assuming Zubac is unavailable. Amir Coffey and Batum cannot be traded until January 15. Wall is off-limits until December 15."

Bait And Switch

The Clippers have become as secretive as the Spurs, hiding their every intention to prevent their opponents from getting an unfair advantage. Putting out something like this feels very counter-intuitive. While they do have the pieces, they value chemistry and good character over talent and power. They don't want to win like dynasty teams in Warriors, Lakers or Jordan Bulls; they want to win the Good Samaritan way.

I think this trade is not going to happen. It won't help Clippers in grand scheme of things, such as eliminating a pesky opponent from the playoffs or weakening their roster so they can be easily defeated should they meet in playoffs (the equivalent of a first round bye). Nah, this is just a trap to throw Lakers further into their downward spiral, something to bait the purple and gold into biting for Turner before Clippers do, only to find themselves deeper in the lottery... and their pick of Victor Wenbenyama falling into the hands of Pelicans.

If they do have a trade, they won't reveal it until they actually make it. Give them until the trade deadline for their David Copperfield moment.

I'd guess the leaker is on Pacers side, trying to goose LAL into putting 2 picks in the pot (before they give up on the season altogether.)

his plus/minus confirms it

it could be that the career-high minutes are hurting his efficiency

A deal involving Kennard to land Turner should have been done last year. Kennard can shoot, but he is going to be firmly planted on the bench (ala Duncan Robinson) as you go deeper in the playoffs. Turner is averaging 17.9 with 8.7 Rbs and 3.1 Blks right now. Turner is taking more 3 pt shots/gm (3.9) than Kennard (3.4), but Turner provides so much more overall. He would help out a lot. If Turner has a great year, then we would hold his Bird Rights.

Don't think we need to move Zu just yet. Kawhi likes to look for Zu. Would be good to have one of Turner and Zu of the court most of the game.

Zu is actually really frustrating to watch as a player. He is not strong enough to finish at the rim when there is a little contact. He gets blocked by much smaller players often. AND he is not that good of a rebounder for his size. Not looking at stats, just eye test.

The Clips should do this in a heartbeat in any kind of reasonable trade package. Kennard would be a good base for this, if Indiana wants his shooting. I would trade Kennard and Zu for Turner and some smaller asset if we can keep Turner after this year.

I like both Kennard and Zu, but we already know Kennard doesn't get minutes and Zu wouldn't either with Turner onboard. This would be a great consolidation trade (again dependent on having a good shot at keeping him beyond this year.) Bird rights blah blah blah...This kind of trade is the trade that makes the Coffey signing from good to great, if last year wasn't a mirage. Consolidate and put guys like Coffey in the rotation, there is a net benefit if we make good trades.

I've really talked myself into this one and will be disappointed if we don't get him, this would be the prototypical Clipper trade (opportunistic.) OTOH it's harder if Pacers only want to clear salary, we don't have a good expiring to offer (along with a future 1st.) They are a decent team though that seems past bottoming out, so 2 good cost-controlled players might be desirable for them.

I would probably do such a trade if the Pacers would accept it.

I really like Kennard though because he is such a great shooter and has improved on defense. Maybe they would accept somebody like Boston instead as they seem to want to rebuild.

Before we trade our few remaining assets and young prospects for a player as mediocre as Turner, can we at least give Moussa a chance to play? Is this front office trying to build an actual team or just troll the Lakers, because it's really starting to feel like the latter.

Turner is better than mediocre. He can stretch the floor and is a good defender. Definitely an upgrade from Zubac

It's a huge red flag that he's been on the trade block for seemingly years and nobody's made the move. At very least, he's not worth trading what's left of our assets, IMO.

My list of players that should be traded. Morris, Covington, and Zu. Zu is terrible offensively. His post moves are aweful and he is too slow defensively. Morris doesnt play defense.

I'm holding on the the youth until we can truly see what they're capable of before going after another big money injury prone guy that probably won't be motivated on a nightly basis. I don't think none of us will be able to deal with another SGA situation anytime soon. Boston will kill it if he gets on another team and gets consistent playing time. Moussa already looks like a stud. Plus the kids are on super cheap team friendly deals not to mention OKC still has two more first rounders and two more first round pick swaps from us. Can't have bare cupboards with nothing in the wing these days especially with the league going fully young now.

I get what you are saying, but Turner is a very solid big man for the modern game- quite versatile on both ends of the court.

I think he is worth trading some of the youth on the team. I wouldn't hesitate to include Zubac and Boston in the trade, but I'm not sure that's enough to get Turner.

I hear what you are saying about SGA, but I highly doubt Boston will be in that category of player. For sure, he is a solid scorer and will improve as he gets stronger, but I don't think he will ever be an all star caliber player

FOMO that prevents us from making big upgrades to our championship equity when our time is now? definitely do not sign me up, even if it's all just speculating on our parts
