Luke Kennard , Reggie Jackson , John Wall tribute

Post#1 » by PeteyPablo » Fri Feb 10, 2023 1:48 am

Just wanted to isolate a page to share your thoughts
For these players.

Mine :

Luke Kennard - many people thought Clippers overpaid for him when they signed him. He always seemed to be a positive player and gave his best.

Reggie Jackson - a professional , veteran, he carried the Clippers on many occasions. He did not complain and gave us his best efforts.

John Wall - He had the right attitude but I can not say he was horrible ? Maybe he shot when he should not ? Sure there were turnovers. Could there have been something deeper within the organization?

As a Clipper fan since they came here in 1983, I really appreciate this thread, Pablo. From my perspective:

—Wall was never here.

—Luke was barely here.

—Reggie Jackson earned every penny here every day he spent in a Clipper uni. He played hurt, he played tired, he played his best. He stepped forward and led, and took the flak with no complaining, never an alibi. We can say that of very few Clippers in our history.

If Ballmer has Westbrook in the bag--and this is BALLMER'S baby--then this all makes sense. Russ is more Reggie than Reggie is, for good and for ill.

Reggie was the 300 Spartans. Heroes all.

But they get slaughtered in the end. And Ballmer said f*** that. Fair enough. Let's go for it. Bring on the impossible.
Maybe we won't win but let's just not die like dogs?

After all these years I don't ask for much.

Wall tried and seemed to have the right attitude. Started off promising but it fell apart for various reasons. Wish him well.

Kennard had moments no question. But it took so long for him to get we need him to let it fly. He gained that confidence but injuries and in/out of the rotation put hesitation back in his game. Defense improved over time as well. Powell made him expendable though. Best of luck.

Reggie gave his all. More than should have been asked of him. Loved being a Clipper and seemed genuine in all ways. Happy he was rejuvenated here. All good things must come to an end though. It was time to move on. Wish him the best.

I know it was necessary and maybe for the better but I am legit sad Reggie is no longer with us. Team seemed to get him out of a dark place. I'll always remember him crossing up Westbrook for the lead last year as well as the skip before. Also enjoyed watching his dances with the mascot as well.

Would love to see Reggie end up on a contender. Assuming it's not just agent spin, the Suns and Nuggets are apparently among those interested.

egads him on the nuggets would be pretty sick, since he'd get pretty much the easiest shots ever from jokic

Agree with everything good said about Reggie—he did what he was supposed to, and tried to do more than he could or should have. I’ll always like him for his attitude toward his teammates and the Clips in general. He’s in the “Wasn’t here long/had an outsized impact” group for me.

I wanted Wall to work out. He wasn’t here long. I wish him well.

Luke … I like Luke. I think he’s a better player than he gets credit for—better passer, better defender. I also think he’s hurt a lot. If he could stay healthy and play a 2200 minute season, he’d earn himself some pretty good $$. I think he tried his best to do that here—don’t think the overcrowding at SG helped him at all—and was largely a positive influence.

Best wishes to all—but especially for Reg-gie!

Wall did nothing to earn a tribute. I was really rooting for him to succeed after everything he's been through off the court, but it didn't work out.

Reggie was never my favorite, but I'll always fondly remember his 2021 playoff run. When everything was clicking for him, he was electric. Unfortunately, those moments were surrounded by games where he'd chuck awful shots, make huge mental mistakes and rack up turnovers - all while still getting guaranteed minutes from Lue. And by the end of his time here, we were getting Bad Reggie 99% of the time, thus we finally had to move on. It is what it is.

Luke's transformation has been incredible. I went from being really down on him and his contract when he first got here to wishing he'd get more playing time and shots by the end. We're going to be kicking ourselves for letting Luke get away, especially to a conference rival who already owns us consistently and needed shooting. Anyone writing him off like he did nothing has forgotten his heroics against Dallas and that historic comeback against the Wizards. Just watch how a modern coach unlocks him by actually running plays, not Lue's stagnant isoball from 1992. Washed-up Eric Gordon is not an upgrade.

Reggie - his departure reminds me a bit of the other two point guards who were fan favorites that contributed a lot, but had their faults: Lemon Pepper Lou and Pat Bev. The only difference is the other two did things that gave FO a reason to trade them (bubble departure/shoving CP3 from behind). I thought Reggie's role this season was perfect for him. 15-20 productive minutes off the bench. Great locker room chemistry guy. Not a fan of him being traded... Big Government will always be a favorite of mine, from his playoff heroics, to his "gallop", and his dancing with the Condor. He will be missed...

Luke - I wasn't a big fan of his initial signing, but when he showed up, he showed up. While he's a deadly 3 point shooter when left wide open (and a decent one even when contested), I feel like his potential wasn't reached. I think both Luke and the coaching were partly to blame for this, but let's just say I'd be surprised if he has a breakthrough on his next team. Would've been nice if won the 3point contest as a Clipper.

Wall - I'm indifferent, I'm okay with him gone, but I'd be okay if he stayed. He's been pretty bad lately, but I think he eventually would've figured things out and adjusted his game, and become a decent occasional backup.

Reggie did everything he was asked, but the team needs efficiency from their complimentary guys like him, since his main role is shooting and complimentary scoring, and he was unable to replicate his efficiency from past seasons. Sucks, but it is what it is. I wouldn't be surprised if he landed on Phoenix or Denver or whomever he's linked to and has an efficient stretch with the guys they have there to get him the ball (Murray/Jokic and Paul/Booker/Durant).

I was a big fan of Luke, injuries have plaqued him his whole career and also hindered him as a Clipper. Him getting himself back in form and being more mobile and useful on defense was good. Sucks to lose such a high level shooter. He's the type of player where if you had a PG like CP3, he would almost "force" usage to him. I don't agree with people blaming Lue, a coach can only set plays, players still need to run them. There was room in the plays run to get more usage out of Luke, but you either needed him to be aggressive, or you needed a PG or playmaker who would make shots get to him and constantly be encouraging him (even firmly) to shoot. The coach has a limitation in making this happen.

Wall was barely here. He had some potential to make sense on the roster, but clearly it didn't work. It's funny that we were debating who should start between him and Reggie earlier in the season and in the end neither are even on the team.

It's interesting that Wall never got picked up. I hope he works hard and can still find a place next season.

Luke's numbers with Memphis are just about exactly the same as he did with the Clippers.

You is what you is.

You’re a goddamn fool about everything. Do you hate every single move that the front office makes. Luke Kennard is nothing but a catch-and-shoot especialist and even with that role, he is pretty gun-shy. He has a once-in-a-blue-moon 30-point game and you’re out here flexing a useless “prediction.” Gordon is not “washed-up.” He is an upgrade over Kennard.

Let me guess, you miss Vinny del Negro. Hell, you miss the DTS ownership.
