Post#1 » by wakelaunch1 » Fri Feb 7, 2025 9:37 pm

i said this last year but Ben Simmons would be an interesting fit with the Clippers

Backup PG for Lue s small ball five/

Simmons
Bogdon
Coffey
Powell
Batum

Simmons guards the 5s on defense with help from Batum

We need shooting and scoring in the worst way possible and Simmons doesn't shoot nor score. But maybe I'm wrong

He can take care of the ball, create easy shots for others, defend multiple positions, and rebound. That will work if Lue fixes the second unit to have shooters out there with him.

If they’re expecting him to provide a scoring punch with other non scorers out there it will be a disaster.

Exactly which is why I put all shooters around him. Only way it works is if he can manage to play the 5 on defense for some minutes with the help of the Batum Also having Powell and Bogdon out there add ball handling and Powell is an additional shot creator

I'm down for him coming in. If he wants minutes + limelight he'll come to this team, if he wants a ring he'll go Cavs.. not sure about the Rockets.

We have an "umbrella plan" of opening up cap space and not trading picks until '26-'27, but everything else we're doing is throwing sh*t up against the wall and trying to see what sticks. The front office is clueless right now.

Oh, ffs. Yes, Ben Simmon wasn't worth his contract. Yes, I'd have serious questions about mental toughness in a playoff series. Yes, his injuries are a concern. But after a buyout, he's a (very) cheap signing. And we haven't made the playoffs yet, so speculating about that is pointless. So, yes, he'd be a fantastic pickup.

Simple way to look at it. We just traded TMann. And we liked him because he could "do a little of everything." But here's the deal:

Code: Select all

G   MPG  PPG  RPG  APG  STL  BLK  FG%   3P%   TS%
Mann      37  19.8  6.0  2.9  1.6  0.8  0.3  .446  .347  .533
Simmons   33  25.0  6.2  5.2  6.9  0.8  0.5  .547  .000  .562

Age? Same. Price? Mann is (at least) $10 million more. Position fit? We need more help guarding Fs and Cs. Wityh Eubanks and Simmons, we've got that area covered.

Overall, looks like we're trading KPJ's game/offense and TMann's defense for Boggy's game/offense and Simmons/Eubanks D. That seems to me like it would be a successful trade period.

Good post. Agreed.

Despite all the weirdness and discouragement since the 2021 sixers series, when he's been on the court, I like what Ben brings to the court overall on both ends.

It is mind boggling that he has not formed a jumpshot and range, outside of practice and summer runs. Maybe he does one day still.. long shot but anyone can still get better with the right mindset and influence.

I was going to be stunned if he didn’t sign here. The Clippers made the KPJ trade knowing another playmaker was on the way.

Cool, Lue now has his new Morris/PJ/KPJ to give way too many minutes to. That didn't take long. :noway:

We gave up on Mann for passing up too many shots just to bring in a proven scrub who refuses to even take easy layups and dunks. Worst front office in the league.

Simmons in the role he will have here is fine. Won't be expected to play in crunch time, and there are enough people to pass to that his fear of taking any shots will mostly be fine.

He was still an overall positive player for the Nets, and he still has useful on court skills. It's all about lineups, a passing big man is always nice to have. Basically he's playing a worse post Charlotte Boris Diaw role now.

I know people love to make fun of Ben Simmons but I am most interested in his defense. He was one of the most versatile defender in the league. I am hoping he can be our Jared Vanderbilt, someone who can guard 1-5 and crash the boards.

I don't believe he has the mobility to guard 1's and 2's anymore, but 3-5

I see he is averaging 6.9 assists in 25 minutes this season- that's solid. It is good to have another playmaker as Harden has to do it all. I wish Simmons would shoot more though

We got enough defenders, we need shooters! We're not scoring any points as of late.

Interested in his defense.

We now have a chubby Slovenian dude in our division/conference. Also interested in his versatility.
Been hoping we could snag him on the cheap.

Pulling for him to turn his career around.

Ben Simmons, Clippers Agree To Contract

Ben Simmons will join the LA Clippers after he clears waivers. Simmons worked a buyout agreement with the Brooklyn Nets and will join LA, who has an open roster spot after their trade deadline moves.

Simmons joins a Clippers team that is deep in talent, but could use more size. Expect the versatile guard/forward to play multiple roles for LA, as Ty Lue will work Simmons in at a lot of different spots.

The Clippers added Bogdan Bogdanovic, Drew Eubanks, MarJon Beauchamp and Patty Mills in deadline trades. Mills and Simmons have a close relationship, as both are Australians and previously played together on the Nets.

No team in the league has the required cap space to claim Simmons' contract. That will clear him to join the Clippers on a rest-of-season contract.
