Boston Globe: "Clips Would Consider A Buyout"

Speculation persists that the Celtics also have interest in Clippers point guard Sam Cassell, a former teammate of Garnett's. The only way the Celtics likely could acquire Cassell is if the veteran is bought out of his contract, since Boston doesn't appear to have the right pieces to make a trade.

An NBA source said the Clippers would consider buying out Cassell if he worked out a reasonable agreement, but nothing is imminent.

Cassell is making $6.1 million this season.

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?????

A buyout with Cassell??? No freakin' way. Elgin does this-- he's completely off his rocker. Not that he wasn't before...but damn!

an nba source could be anything so i'm not ready to believe this but if it saves sterling money you gotta assume it's a possibility.

This is out of Boston so that has to be taken into consideration. I'd rather something else be done if Cassell ends up on another team, but Loflin made a good point it being a possibility if it saves "The Donald" money.

Warriors have their trade exception and a pick for Sam.

The exception can be used up to one year from when it's used. Or you can let it expire. Plus you get a pick out of it.

it cannot be used along with a player, but a pick is OK.

It does free up money for you guys or you can use it around the draft to aquire players or picks.

why would they do that when there are a ton of teams that would die for some PF help. I don't see the logic in this, why buyout for nothing when you can trade for something?
