Clippers vs. Knicks

Post#1 » by SD2042 » Mon Feb 4, 2008 9:30 am

Image vs. Image

Who: Los Angeles Clippers(14-30) vs. New York Knicks(14-32)
When: Monday, February 4th
Where: Madison Square Garden in New York City, NY
Time: 4:30 PM PST
TV/Radio: KTLA/ESPN 710
Season Series: First Meeting
Team Trivia Connection: Coach Mike Dunleavy was born in Brooklyn, NY and attended Nazareth High School in Brooklyn.

The Lowdown

What can be said. This is a matchup between 2 teams that only won 14 games respectively. Both endured injuries, flu, and yet haven't had the kitchen sink thrown at them yet. The last time these two teams met. The Clips beat the Knicks 84-81 @ STAPLES Center. This time, the Clips head east to New York to take on the Knicks. The Knicks are riding a 5 game losing skid and missing most of their starting lineup. This game can go either way. So may the worse team win.

Clippers Manifesto

1. The Knicks are defensively challenged. Take to them offensively.

2. Hit the boards.

The Knicks have lost their last 5 games but at the same time we've only won 1 out of our last 5. If Kaman is back at least we'll have someone hitting the boards (we're -32 in our last two games). We'll also need to play strong for 48 minutes. We've gone back to dropping off in the 2nd half.

Both of these teams are inconsistent, it depends on which teams show up to play. It does work in our favor if Kaman and Maggette are able to play. The Knicks do have talent but no chemistry. I don't wanna see another game similar to Minnesota. We can pull out this game if we can have a full bench for once and bring our A game into the Garden.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

It's simple: Kaman doesn't play, we lose. Curry and Randolph are too much for the likes of Powell, Williams and Thomas to defend (emphasis on the Thomas guy). But hopefully we can do something on this road trip, like get a W! And playing the Knicks is always a good way to start that trend.

Oh and SD-- a note on the game thread, it's not the first meeting. Clips beat the Knicks at Staples on Nov 14, 84-81.

I was really hoping Maggette could play in this game to display his talent to Isiah so a Maggette for Crawford deal could start up. I would love to have Crawford and Lee but I know that will not happen. I wanted us to draft Lee but we passed on him for some kid from Russia.

Maggette is listed as probable. I hope he plays and plays big.

Like the Clippers the Flu hit the Knicks as well, so there is a possibility that Richardson and Curry will be starting tonight. Thus increase the probability that the Clippers will win.

Dunleavy Apologizes to Isiah

Post#9 » by mkwest » Mon Feb 4, 2008 11:59 pm

Dunleavy, upset over ownership coming out publicly and saying that the undermanned Clippers should be a playoff team, fired back at his impatient boss by saying: "I would only make deals to help our future - anything else is suicide. Anything else and you become the New York Knicks. Now if you want to do that and take on big contracts and long-term deals to potentially hit a home run or get some kind of turnaround, that's not the direction, I would go as a businessman or if I owned the team."

When he originally learned of Dunleavy's remarks, Thomas said: "I think he should talk about his own team." With Dunleavy and the Clippers in town tonight, Thomas said the two coaches had put the incident behind them.

"He called me and apologized and I accepted it," Thomas said. "I took it for what it was worth."

According to Thomas, Dunleavy was referring to the Knicks before Thomas arrived, when former Garden president Dave Checketts traded Patrick Ewing's expiring contract for players with long-term deals.

Dunleavy is under the weather so Kim Hughes will be on the sidelines for the Clips tonight.

Both Maggette & Kaman will play but will come off of the bench.

I'm loving these nice early starts by Powell. Kaman enters the game for Josh. Clippers up 10-8 after 3 1/2 minutes of play.

Back to back 3's for the Clips. Mobley then Thomas. We have the 16-12 lead.

Clips are off to a very good start. We lead by 10. 24-14 with 5:02 left in the quarter. Sam & Timmy are running the show so far.

After leading by 10, the Clips have allowed the Knicks to go on a 9-2 run with Randolph at the line shooting 2. He hits them both. 26-25 Clippers with 3:06 left in the 1st.

Lineup for the Clippers: Cassell, Mobley, Maggette, Thornton, & Kaman! This lineup is heavenly compared to what we've been workin' with recently.
