Suns Eye Another Trade (Clipper Related)

The Suns are in trade talks this evening with a few teams, trying to acquire a wing player in a deal for a second-round pick before Thursday's trade deadline.
Phoenix could know by the end of the night whether they can work out a deal for a player like the Los Angeles Clippers' Quinton Ross, Denver's Yakhouba Diawara or Seattle's Mickael Gelabale. Golden State's Mickael Pietrus is also an outside possibility but he would come at a costlier price tag with a salary this season of about $3.5 million, which would be prorated for the season's remainder but would also add to the Suns' luxury tax hit.
Phoenix is seeking a wing player who is a versatile, strong defender and Ross fits that bill at a great price. Ross' salary is slightly more than $800,000 but offers defense, rebounding and ability to play in transition in a 6-foot-6, 193-pound frame. He has been a part-time starter over the past four seasons for the Clippers.

Q is one of my favorite on the Clippers. I am a fan of defense and that's what he brings to out team. I also love his hard work, he's an undrafted player and he just keeps getting better. I don't think Q is worth trading.

He does the little things that often go unnoticed until you see the other teams shooting guard shooting 4-15.
I don't really see anything that the Suns could offer us that would really be worthwhile for us. Well maybe the Atlanta pick.

I'm with yall, I love Q! But I think he can be bought at the right price. The thing is though, he means more to us than any team will be willing to offer.

we'll see. Considering all the drama thats been going down in the league this year, nothing is done until its DONE...& then some.

personally tucker is worthless on the suns with our depth, but if you do get him, i really hope he does well
he has a great back to the basket game for a smaller guy

I just want to know if Tucker is as great a defender as Q. I really don't want to see Q go. Q could turn out to be another Bruce Bowen or Raja Bell. One of those undrafted guys that can defend. All he needs to do is develop a more consistent jump shot.

The Suns wouldn't be trading him if he had a tremendous upside. Maybe this isn't a bad move since Q is unrestricted and would probably be leaving the Clippers anyway at the end of the season.
If this is the only move though, the Clippers still aren't setup to even reach .500 ball next season. The only chance to change that would be getting lucky and picking up Derrick Rose in the lottery.

i've been saying all along the suns would be crazy not to go after q. he's affordable, he's very familiar with the lakers and he plays incredible perimeter d. i'm gonna miss q if this is for real.
tucker had and has a lot of hype. from my understanding his offensive game is pretty nice. he can finish and shoot the 3 ball. he's quick and has long arms so he has the tools to be a good defender but i don't know if it will happen. his college numbers suggest he can get to the line but only shot about 65% from the stripe. he and fellow college grad thornton sound like they could be a handful on offense.
i'd have liked to keep ross for next year when we might actually have an opportunity to be competitive again once we're healthy. but there was a chance we'd lose q this summer so i guess flipping him for a rookie first round pick and a 2nd rounder is pretty good value.

I know you all would love to have Mike Miller and the Suns are obviously interested in Ross, why not pull off a 3-way between the Suns/Grizz/Clips?
Clips get: Miller/Tucker
Suns get: Ross/Cassell/Lowry
Grizz get: Pike/Marks/A. Williams/1st from Clips/Atl pick from Suns
You guys get that major 3pt threat in Miller and a young guy who can play the 2/3 in Tucker and all you give up is Cassell (who's being shopped), Ross, and your 1st rd pick this year.
Grizzlies get what they want and that's expirings plus draft picks for their rebuild.
Suns get the final 'ship pieces in a defensive wing (to replace Marions defense), a veteran PG to back-up Nash and a young 1/2 in Lowry for the future.

That sounds like a good trade except our draft pick. I do not think we will give up the pick unless we end up getting Barbosa for Cassell.

How is that? Maybe protect the Clips pick to say Lottery protected or Top 10 protected this year, but with this trade the Clips need to give up a first. your logic about what players would "fetch" is very flawed and is based entirely on assumptions. i'm pretty sure when we say we'd want barbosa it's actually a mesauring stick of how far off the original deal is to what our 1st rounder is actually worth. in this case, the difference between this trade and reality is barbosa. that's literally how far off the original trade is. acquiring two picks in the top 20 in a trade is something i'd expect you to demand for pau gasol. but for mike miller?
take out the clippers first and the deal actually starts to make some sense.

So you think (with contracts aside) that someone would trade Miller for Cassell straight up? That's what I'm getting from you in that Cassell and a protected 1st isn't worth Miller. That's downright idiotic.

you can't tell me contracts don't matter when they've proven to be this year one of the most valuable assets a team can have. "contracts aside" would you think kwame brown and essentially 3 late first rounders is worth pau gasol? i didn't think so.
take that logic of "contracts aside" and apply it to every trade made in the past month and tell me who is idiotic then.

Phoenix radio station is reporting the Ross deal dead. It seems the Clips wanted too much for him for Phoenix's liking. You can get the story on sports.ktar.com.

Apparently Phoenix was only offering a 2nd rounder for Ross, Tucker wasn't included. No wonder the Clippers turned them down.
