According to a Clippers source, the team will announce today that it is buying out the contract of the 38-year-old guard.

NBA sources indicated that the Celtics, Mavericks, and Nuggets all are prepared to make Cassell an offer once he clear waivers in 48 hours. All three teams have their biannual exceptions available to give to Cassell (a maximum of $1.83 million) while the Mavs have their full mid-level available ($5.356 million) and Denver has $2.356 of its mid-level. The Celtics have spent all of their mid-level.

So who do you guys think he will choose? Mavs, Nuggz, Cavs or C's?

Also, does anybody have a non-copyrighted pic of Sam?

I didn't know that Dallas had their full mid-level exception to off him. I go with either Denver or Boston. Well P2 you may finally get what you want. We're really going to have instability at the PG spot now. I don't trust Knight or Dickau too much.

yeah, i'm sure you guys will really miss him now that he has no reason to come to the clippers board.... until he wants someone else bought out or waived from your team.

P2, I think you're gonna get your way...damn. I'd have no problem with Sammy joining the C's if it wasn't for that obnoxious punk. :) For two years, Sam was one of my most favorite Clippers. Its tough to see him go (disclaimer: although his departure isn't official yet, it's inevitable). I can't help but think that if Shaun and Elton never got hurt, Sam would get his wish of playing for a contender without ever having to leave me! Sammy, you love me, then you leave me....with your big shiny alien head...adios, amigo.

good for sam. he's treated this whole matter like a true professional, hopefully setting an example of maturity for other clippers who have decisions to make this offseason. i'll never forget all he did for our franchise in the two and a half years he's been here. i'm looking forward to watching sam chase another ring with which ever team he decides to sign with.

I think Phoenix is trying to get him as well. P2, I hate to say it but you may get your wish, our FO really dropped the ball. They could have at least picked up a 2nd round pick. I would prefer him to go to Boston because we only have to play against him two times next year if he is still there but I would also like to see him at Phoenix to help them avoid The Lakers getting to the Championship rounds.

Brevin Knight with Dan Dickau as his backup.

I like everybody else would have rather gotten something for him at or before the deadline. After finding out he has the same agent as Brand, it's for the best that his desires were met and that he and the team separate in an amicable manner. I wish Sam the best and hope he has fun in the playoffs. I'll be rooting for him.

Are we absolutely sure this is happening?
LA Times today:
"But for now he remains in limbo, waiting as David Falk, his agent, attempts to reach a deal with Clippers President Andy Roeser, before the deadline."
Boston Globe today:
"An NBA source said yesterday that Clippers owner Donald Sterling does not seem interested in buying out the final year of guard Sam Cassell's contract. Cassell's agent, David Falk, has given the Clippers a deadline of Saturday to complete the buyout so the 6-foot-3-inch, two-time NBA champion would be eligible for another team's postseason roster. Cassell is being paid $6.1 million this season, and is believed to be owed about one-third of that total."
Orange County Register today:
"Cassell said his agent, David Falk, and Clippers president Andy Roeser have been talking. As of Tuesday afternoon, nothing had been resolved."
--- It sounds as if there is still considerable negiotiating to be done before Friday's deadline.
Who knows how this will turn out. Sam will definitely have to bend considerably to get what he wants here --- the organization is playing hardball.

We'll see how hardball the organization will be with Brand, who can opt out after this season and has the same agent as Cassell, David Falk.

sterling should play hardball when he's paying somebody to leave. unlike brand, who sterling would be paying to stay.

What I meant is, that we would see how hard Sterling is with David Falk when Brand will think about opting out.

I'm sure the org is aware of this...but the situation they're going through with Sammy is completely different than what they'll be doing with EB. Like loflin said...DTS would be paying Sam to leave, Elton to stay. I'm sure EB and his agent will recognize the difference and not be so petty about the Cassell issue when it comes time for EB to sign a new deal.

yes i know what you meant and i recognize you trying to be sarcastic by bringing elton brand into this.

p2, you're a real nice guy when you think you're getting sam cassell, but it's obvious that you get real sensitive all of a sudden when you read that things aren't going your way. next time, try to have enough class to stay on topic in a thread you started. because if you can't stay on topic in your own threads, they're going to be locked.
