do you guys think the clippers can get rudy gay?

Post#1 » by bulldogcharly » Thu Feb 28, 2008 7:07 am

now i know the grizzlies would love to rebuild around him and stuff but do you guys think the clippers can make a good enough deal to get rudy gay?

i was thinking of trading kaman or someone like that or maybe maggette (not sure whats the deal with his contract and if hes going to take his option or not) but one of those two or maybe even someone else plus maybe a filler and our lottery pick for the upcoming draft. we would get rudy gay and brian cardinal for kaman or maggette + filler + lottery pick + future 1st round pick.

we take cardinal off their hands which makes the grizzlies really happy considering he has like 2 years on his contract left, he doesnt do much anymore for them, and its a pretty hefty contract.

im not sure if this would be enough but maybe we can get a third team involved like maybe the suns who could recieve miller and lowry and maybe give someone like barbosa or diaw and some more of their young talent along with the hawks' lottery pick this year (they've been struggling as of late and i dont see them making the playoffs)

the grizzlies dont need kyle lowry because they have jcritt and conley already at point and they probably have a higher ceiling than lowry. theyve been trying to get rid of miller and phx would be the perfect fit for him because of his shooting ability. lowry would be a great back up pg.

so in the end for miller, cardinal, lowry and gay the grizzlies recieve either maggette or kaman, either barbosa or diaw and some other young talent along with two lottery picks. i think thats a pretty good deal considering this draft is stacked with amazing talent and they could get some great players for the future in this draft that could eventually help them more than just keeping gay.

ive put some thought into this but not like tons of thought and havent checked it out in the trade checker yet so yeah. lol

I would do that trade in a heartbeat. But there's no way in hell Memphis will give Rudy Gay for anybody on our roster, including Brand. You're talking about a future perennial all-star who's only 21.

Wait... Chris Wallace is the GM, right? You can probably get him for Cuttino Mobley.

Naw they can keep Gay. I'm real happy with Thornton's progress.

We could put Rudy at the 2. Thornton will play 3. Imagine Rose with those two on a fast break. :o

Gay and Thornton are both 6'8? Still doesn't make sense to me.

hey all...Griz fan here..and there is no one on the Clippers roster that could get you Rudy in a trade. Sure, there's always the "no player is untouchable if the right deal comes along" adage...but RU-DEE is the face of the franchise for now and for the foreseeable future and will be going nowhere. The planning for roster manipulation so that he can be resigned at the end of his rookie deal will be in motion soon..the case could be made that it's already begun...

Besides, my wife and I named our new puppy "RU-DEE" (yes, that's how it's spelled on his tags), so they can't trade him

But...I could always dig a puppy named Elton ;)

Best of luck to you guys rest of the year.

well don't you guys think that getting two lottery picks which will probably be top 7 and top 10 and maybe even top 5 picks along with probably not diaw or barbosa (because their contracts are too big and long) but maybe bell because he will only have one year left after next year and maybe they can even buy him out. the grizzlies would probably get alando tucker and dj strawberry in the deal too and maybe even phoenix's pick in the draft because phoenix would be happy to give that up for miller and lowry.

i mean the grizzlies want more and more picks and some young guys that would come off the bench wouldnt hurt either.

with atls mid/late lottery pick they could probably get hibbert or jordan which imo would be better than having jason collins down low.

so heres the trade

phx gives: raja bell, alando tucker, dj strawberry, ATLs pick in 08 draft, phxs pick in 08 draft, future 1st rounder

phx receives: mike miller, kyle lowry

clippers give: maggette or kaman or mobley, few fillers, 08 lottery pick, future 1st rounder and cash

clippers receive: rudy gay, brian cardinal, grizzlies future 2nd round pick

grizzlies give: rudy gay, brian cardinal, kyle lowry, mike miller, future 2nd round pick

grizzlies receive: raja bell, alando tucker, dj strawberry, maggette or kaman or mobley, ATLs lottery pick in 08, clippers lottery pick in 08, clippers future 1st rounder, phx future 1st rounder, cash from clips

grizzlies get rid of cardinal who has a huge contract and isnt any help to the grizzlies. they get rid of lowry who they dont need because of the amount of pgs they have on the team. they get rid of miller who they tried to get rid of because they want to start rebuilding. they receive a ton of picks and two VERY high picks. they receive a lot of young players to fill the spots of all their expiring contracts. they get future picks as well and cash.

id at least consider it if i were the grizzlies.

now do you guys think the grizzlies would do it? the clippers are very close to being in the top 5 worst teams in the NBA. say they get a top 3 pick do you see the phx/memphis/clipper trade going down? atls pick will probably be #10 so they get two high draft picks in this years stacked draft.

i want to hear more opinions on this trade
