Dunleavy & Sterling Break Silent Treatment

Post#1 » by mkwest » Wed Mar 5, 2008 8:46 am

The mea culpa between Sterling and Dunleavy took place in Beverly Hills at the owner's office Tuesday evening. Team President Andy Roeser also attended.

"Basically, before all this stuff happened, I thought we had a great relationship and everything was going in the right direction," Dunleavy said. "You lose and everybody gets frustrated and things are said and everybody gets tense and heated up."

"We sat down and talked about things and I think things are going back to the way it was."

Said Roeser: "He's our coach. We are behind him 100% and there is no doubt we will do whatever we can to all work together to improve the team."

In the same article there is an update on Brand and his status in practice. He hopes to make a return by the end of the upcoming 5-game road trip (15 or 17th).

Eh, all this Dunleavy-Sterling stuff....first of all, Sterling is an all-bark-no-bite type of owner, and we all know Dunleavy has "people" and could have Sterling "taken care of" easily. So this beef between them seems extremely irrelevant. Dun is gonna get what he wants, or he's gonna force himself to be fired. Depending on how you feel about Dunleavy, it could be a win-win.

But this Brand news-- why wasn't that the main focus of the article?? Come on, Abrams...(I swear, dude is just begging me to take his job now!) It's such good news to hear that EB is running out with the guys, hopefully he gets some really good, solid, full practices in before team hits the road on Monday (although I'm sure he'll be practicing with them throughout the roadtrip as well). I think getting his wind back is more important than shaking all that rust off before his return. If you don't have your basketball lungs, nothing goes well. And let's not forget Livingston has his appointment with Dr. Andrews in San Fran on Thursday...hopefully Andrews will clear him for some practice time and we can get both of our studs back before April!

Word is that the Heat are going to make a run at him and try to force the Clippers into a sign-and-trade this summer.

how exactly is miami going to force anybody into doing anything when they have no cap space (and therefore no leverage)? and no, shawn marion isn't opting out. neither is elton. book it.

and as far as the sterling/dunleavy thing, i'm glad they're talking again because an organization that doesn't communicate with each other is destine for bad things. i think al thornton's emergence and the optimism al has given fans has helped take a lot of pressure off sterling and his fear of losing fans/ticket holders that donald had a few weeks ago when he and dunleavy's bickering went public.

Blah blah blah, so what if they had a meeting and supposedly ironed out their differences?!? Until everyone in Clipper Management is fired, nothing will change. Dunleavy needs to step down as coach and take Elgin's place as GM. Then hire a REAL coach who knows how to utilize his players' abilities.

Sterling and Dun can go back and forth all they want. We just want results, I'm tired of all this childish crap they're pulling.

I agreed with your post up until the part about Dunleavy taking Elgin's GM position. We need to fire Dunleavy, Baylor and Roeser at the end of the season to make significant progress. Switching any of them into other positions within the organization will just continue the current losing trend the Clippers are in.

The bigger problem is that Sterling doesn't want a real GM (ha ha), he wants a stooge to do his bidding. So that's Baylor's job, and he pretty much can do it as well as anybody else.

We did have a good year prior, and to the Clippers' credit they extended Kaman, and obviously the big injuries weren't their fault.

But I don't really see an end to the revolving door of players, the Clippers seem destined to be a 30-40 win team that treads water as it drafts new players to replace exiting ones (like say Thornton for Maggette.)

Baylor always says the right things in interviews, but the team doesn't seem willing to risk its steady profit to build a winner.
