Question about Livingston (Sterling)

Post#1 » by Manhattan Project » Sat Mar 8, 2008 7:53 am

Lets say a team offers Livingston the FULL MLE this summer, do you really honestly truly believe that Sterling would match? I mean he is known to be a cheap bastard at times, but he did match Brands and Maggettes contracts when he thought he had a winning team. So do you think he would match Livingston's proposed contract? As a fan of the Clippers I am scared because this is a chance to match Sterling's cheapness...

Are other teams willing to pay him as well though? That was a pretty horrible injury that everyone was able to witness. I'm pretty sure that every team will question if he can still play.

But if there IS a team that is willing to take that chance, then I don't believe Sterling will match it if we manage to get a PG in this coming draft. Its just too difficult to pay him so much for the little he's shown, and even though the little bit he showed to us was just fascinating its still tough to offer him that kind of contract because he's injury prone.

That's something I haven't thought of before. Sterling probably wouldn't match unless Shaun has a monster summer league and shows he's good to go. I'd be surprised if a team were willing to take that risk themselves when cap space is so prescious now-a-days.

I wouldn't match the full MLE myself..so no, I don't think Sterling will. Shaun is just a huge question mark at this point and nothing else.

I don't see anyway the Clippers would match a full MLE for Livingston. Maybe a team like the Knicks might consider it, they have thrown around the same type of money at guys like Jerome James and Jared Jeffries in the last couple seasons.

He would have been worth a full MLE without the injury, but I am not sure if he would have gotten much more with his fairly limited development to that point.

Operative phrase.

The thing is though, the only thing the rest of the league has seen about Shaun's injury is the video. The Clippers are the only team who knows the inner-workings of the rehab, so we're the only team likely to offer Livingston a deal at all. But for conversation's sake, if another team did offer him such a deal, I don't know that we would match it. Shaun may very well be worth that money (or more), but its too much of a gamble at this point.

Like Ms. JJ said, our team knows the intimate details of his recovery and rehab while other teams who are not in the loop would be at a disadvantage in taking on the risk of a player who has gone through such a significant injury. At this point, not being able to return this season affects both Livingston and the Clippers in the contract negotiations. Do they give him the qualifying offer and let him play out the season to become an unrestricted free-agent next summer. Do they not give him the qualifying offer, allowing him to become a UFA and sign him to small contract to let him prove himself and earn a bigger deal?

Shaun needs to prove his worth no doubt.

Teams will have Livingston in for work outs, doctors will evaluate his knee. Then they will diside if he is worth the risk. If the doctors say he is healthy he will have no problem getting the full MLE.

Note: His latest set back will not help his cause.

Livingston is a huge risk, but he as been since day 1 we got him. i believe that maybe some crappy team like seattle might offer him something, but i believe if dunleavy wants him back then he will be back. sterling has no clue how to run a team and i believe dunleavy basically told him off and he will soon take over making crucial decisions. and elgin baylor should be fired. we need someone with a better track record. Let's not forget the recent past with the Koralev pick. I'm pretty sure that was Dunleavy's idea in a feable attempt to get a Dun jr. wannabe. Someone should be held accountable. They can't all be like getting Thornton but come on! But as usual it's probable nothing will change.
