Need a player assessment for Maggette

Magic fan here... Corey is on the wish list of most of the Magic fans, and I wanted to get a warts & all assessment from people that follow his current team. To me he seems like an aggressive offensive player w/some durability problems. I don't know how his defense is, but he seems to need the ball in his hands to be effective. What's your take on this guy?

I honestly wouldn't waste my time worrying about Maggette because the Clippers aren't letting him go anywhere. And since when can the Magic afford to sign anybody else's free agents? They threw any cap flexibility they might have had out the window last summer.

Overrated.
He's actually a pretty good 3rd option, but this year is really difficult, being the #1 option on the team. His 22ppg are probably the ugliest in the NBA. He throws up lots of trash but gets calls and makes his living at the line. In the past he could never shoot but lately he's improved a lot. He plays no D and often gets yelled at by Dunleavy. I think his salary today is pretty fair, but he's going to want more than the $8mil he's opting out of.
I wish we could have traded him for someone like Mike Miller. I don't see the Clips resigning him, but I could be wrong.

Yeah right loflin, you know Mags is as good as gone.
Though, I don't think he'll be going to the Magic as he wouldn't accept the MLE, we have nothing to S&T, and if he's an RFA LA would be (Please Use More Appropriate Word) to let him go for the MLE.

So who exactly can and will pay Maggette more than the MLE than the Clippers? Does Memphis need a guy who plays the same position as Rudy Gay or Philly need another wing besides Young & Iggy? After those two teams, all anybody else can offer him is the MLE. Maggette is opting out and will get a new contract from the Clippers, exactly the same situation that played out with Vince Carter in New Jersey last summer.

That's a good comparison with Vince Carter cause they're basically the same player. Except that Vince is on his way down and makes twice as much.

S&T for Ben Gordon or Nocioni.

I'm comparing Maggette's contract situation with Vince's from last summer, not their playing style/ability.

I'm comparing their style and abilities. Check the numbers, they are pretty close.

How are Corey and Vince similar exactly?
Vince is not much of a slasher anymore, Corey is a much better defender than Vince is, and Vince is a much better shooter than Corey is.
They can both dunk and have similar physical attributes if that's what you mean.

Corey attacks the rim more than Vince. Corey has consistently gotten to the line more than Vince through his entire career and that's what Corey is still known for best. Corey to me is a physically bigger version of Dwayne Wade with a less basketball IQ.

He doesn't need to get paid more than the Clippers can offer him. He only needs to make enough to satisfy what he wants.
I know you believe he wants a "pay day" since he probably has the best contract in the league, but that's not
necessarily true, he never should've taken the contract he's currently signed to, there's a chance he'll take a similar type of contract elsewhere if he is unhappy with LAC and the losing. I don't think he'll drop to the MLE though, and anyone who manages to sign him up for the price should feel bad, the guy deserves to get a good contract.

Wild shots, bad shooting percentage, no defense (Corey does not play D).
You're right, Vince used to attack more and he was always a better shooter. But Corey has improved his outside shot and Vince has gone down.
They both get their points but need to have the ball in their hands a lot to get them.

Please tell me who is going to sign him for more than the MLE. The answer is nobody. Don't you know how the CBA works?

I know how the CBA works, and teams will "find a way" if it comes to it.
After all, the teams you mentioned would probably take him. WHy wouldn't Philly want Maggette again? Because they have Iggy? Your point? Same with Memphis. It won't be surprising to see Miller on his way out, pairing Gay with Maggette is a matchup nightmare.
Also, you seem to believe that you won't be making any big changes this summer. You don't think there's a possibility Mags is traded for another player? Corey seems unhappy there, he could force a trade. It worked out pretty well for Odom who got a good deal from Miami in the avenue of $10-million if memory serves.

Teams "find a way"? This isn't fantasy basketball.
Not only does Philly have Iggy, they have Young. You can bet Philly will be after every big man on the market way before they even consider Maggette. Memphis gutted their franchise to save money prior to the deadline, I have trouble believing they'd trade Pau Gasol so they could free up money for Maggette. Odom was a RFA who bad-mouthed the franchise, his situation is much different than Maggette's.

Indeed. It's the reason I dislike Odom so much. He pretty said "If you resign me I'll play like crap". Corey isn't a bitch like that.

You guys can have Corey. He just doesn't fit in Dumbleavy's system. And he's not as athletic as everybody makes him out to be...since all the injuries occurred, he doesn't have the explosiveness he used to. He's basically a stat machine.
Just give us your #1 pick and a couple fillers(i.e. Bogans, Arroyo) and we're straight.
And yes, Odom got a hefty 6 yr, 70 mil deal from Miami...somewhere in that ballpark.

I think Corey specifically tried to raise his shooting %s just for this season to cash out. He must have programmed it into his head to shoot 46% from the field and 40% from 3pt land. Next season, he'll revert back to 42% FG and 25% 3PT...

Corey is at the age where players are in their prime (28/29). Although I do think that his stats are raised a bit because of a contract year, but he's also our #1 option so his stats will obviously be inflated.
As others have said he's not really a good #1 option. Whatever team he ends up with he will be a great #2/#3 option if he can maintain that jumpshot(which I think he can because I have never heard of him having a bad work ethic).
I never really though he had a horrible jump shot like most people said the year before this. It was decent at best, but like I said he's in his prime and he could still improve his game. It was his shot selection that made things seem bad. He still does it this season where he drives in trying to draw contact and flinging the ball up while not getting a call. Thats where people mostly criticized his shot selection.
