Iverson to the Clips

What do you guys think about bringing in Allen Iverson?

He's set to make $21mil next year, the final year of his contract.

Think we can put together a package of Maggette (S&T), Mobley & ??? (Brevin Knight) to bring him to LA?

Iverson solves a lot of problems for us. He's a great PG and shooter and all-around floor leader. He's definitely the man you want taking the shot at the end of games.

I know $21mil is a lot for DTS to choke on, but right now Maggette & Mobley combine for about $18mil.

So what if we get him for 1 year, then what? Well, he's getting up there in years and I don't expect him to get another $20mil+ contract, but its possible he may garner $15mil/year.

And if he does, we won't sign him. We can let him walk. At the end of the day we still make out because we don't have to pay Mobley for his extra year.

I think Maggette is a perfect fit for Denver, run and gun and don't play defense. He may flourish in that kind of system. And Mobley fits in anywhere with his shooting ability.

What do you think?

I just don't see it. The Nuggets will want more backcourt help, especially if they are giving up Iverson. We can't really offer much in that department.

I thought about their guard situation too. That's why I was thinking of including Brevin Knight in the deal.

(We can get away with losing Brevin because we'll have Livingston, Iverson and maybe our #1)

The benefit to Denver is that they have a huge cap #....and they are only in the 9th spot. Are they going to continue to pay big money to not make the playoffs? Keeping Iverson makes sense if they are actually going to contend.

They also have the potential of losing Iverson for nothing after next year. This deal gives them multiple longer term players...and more flexibility in dealing because a large chunk of salary isn't tied up in one player.

Brevin isn't going to help this trade very much. They'll want the #6 to get a backcourt player (Mayo), so maybe if we S&T Maggs along with the #6 and Mobley for Iverson and the Nuggets first rounder (right now at 14) or a future first rounder (top 15 protected) things could work out, but I seriously doubt it.

It all depends on if Iverson is willing to sign an extension with the Clippers.

This is a very interesting proposal even if unlikely, because there is at least some basis for it for both teams.

If Denver misses the playoffs, they are going to have to take a long, hard look at the plans for the future. They got AI for a song anyway, and if they're going to keep 1 of their big 2, it's obviously gonna be Carmelo. If they could trade for Corey and extend him with a reasonable contract, there's something to be said there. Although I guess with Cutino's contract they would really be freeing up any more money to pursue any FA's.

As far as the Clippers go, more than likely we'd be renting a player for a year. But hey it's AI, and we were probably gonna lose Corey anyway. Plus who really cares about Cutino, he's solid but most would argue he makes too much. But not so much that he'd be dead weight on Denver, he is a decent NBA baller.

Realistically Denver doesn't pull a deal like this. But while they're a good team, are those 2 big stars (and their star salaries) the right combo to compete in the West?

As far as the Clippers go, I'd be more in favor of blowing the team out for as many draft picks as possible (including trading EB), and starting over ala 200/2001. I feel like otherwise we're going to be a 30-35 win team for the forseeable future (a future that is without EB in another year.)

I remember The 76ers and the Clippers agreed on a trade that would have sent Iverson to the clips for the no.2(76ers wanted Stromile Swift) pick and I think Odom or Kandi in the summer of 2000. But Iverson declined.

Well Iverson was smart not to do that deal. It wouldn't have been that bad if they got Odom. If they had gotten Swift and Kandi who knows how bad that team would have been.

Why would the Cippers want AI? the dude just jacks up shots. You guys need a guy that knows how to get the ball to Brand first, than find his own shot. AI looks for his shot before even looking for teammates.

Iverson is one of the smartest players in the game if you ask me. He's having a fantastic year, averaging 25+ and 7+ assists per game. An AI/Brand tandem would be great. You have a guy who can create on the dribble, and can dish it inside to Brand. He'd be a fine addition.

the guy your talking about is gilbert...AI can look for his teammates just as good as he can get his shot off.

the Clips had a chance at AI when he was on the market...i think Philly wanted Magette and Livingston. AI even said he wanted to come to LA but the Clips didnt want to give up Livingston and I think 2 weeks later he busted his knee. I wish the Clips wouldve made that deal..

It was more like 2 months later, but I wouldn't have minded if we pulled off that deal. We'd probably be in a better position now if we had made that deal.

If Denver wants to trade Iverson, they would probably want a PG in return. So if Livingston can come back than they would probably do it along with a package of players and some draft picks.
