Wiretap: Clippers Sign Marcus Williams, Waive Aaron Williams

Press Release -
The Los Angeles Clippers today signed free agent forward Marcus E. Williams from the Austin Toros of the NBA Development League for the remainder of the season and waived forward Aaron Williams. Marcus Williams is the 23rd Gatorade Call-up from the NBA Development League this season.
Selected in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs , Marcus Williams appeared in seven preseason games with the Spurs and averaged 3.3 points and 2.6 rebounds before being waived on Oct. 27 and joining the Toros. The former University of Arizona standout re-signed with the Spurs on Dec. 26 and played in one game before being waived on Dec. 29.

I agree. Always a good option to let go of an aging big man, and try to find a young player who can improve and fit into our rotation.

Same here, we were one of the oldest teams coming into this season. As of now I know we got rid of Ruben Patterson, Sam Cassell, and Aaron Williams. Since we're not going any where this season it is better for us to get younger and see if we can develop some of these young players that we've signed. Williams and Fazeakas were good college players so I'm hoping that they might develop nicely for us.

A-Train sat more games than he played so it's not a big surprise. More like it's about time. Bringing in Marcus gives us some youth at the 2. At the very least he adds another healthy body to run with in practice and to bring into training camp.

rose? id rather get mayo. look at our sg situation. mobley and thats it. we might not even bring ross back. i hope we do but still we need a better player at the 2 and i think mayo is the right guy. but im happy with what the clippers are doing. if they look hard enough they can find a good talent in the d league and i think marcus williams might be it

This is pretty much a non event. Marcus Williams is more of slashing SF wing, not the consistent outside shooter that the Clippers need. He shot under 30% on 3's in college and around 35% in D league. I guess they think Powell can play the minutes that Aaron Williams may have gotten. Dunleavy seems intent on playing Kaman 40 mpg regardless of potential injury and fatigue, he played 38 last night. There is little point in releasing Williams at this point in the season.

I agree with you but OJ might stay another yr at SC.

I'd bet on Mayo going pro. He will be a high lottery pick and also I don't see him being willing to share the spotlight with next years big freshman, Demar DeRozan.

Some people are going to find it confusing to have two players named Marcus Williams in the league --- but it may help that one is on the east coast and one on the west coast.

I already get thrown by there being a Sean Williams and a Shawne Williams --- and back in the days when there were two Jason Williams' and a Jayson Williams --- ack, it was too much to sort out.

Don't forget earlier this season the Celtics had Ray Allen and Allan Ray. How great would that be if they were playing at the same time.

A great PG is what's gonna get you over the top. Mayo is super talented, but unless you're a Kobe or Lebron, a wing player can only take you so far. Rose is who we NEED. He's exactly what we've been yearning for years. He will make everyone on the team better. If he does live up to the hype, he will change everything in Clipperland.
I'd rather spend our $ on a veteran SG.

Monta Ellis or Ben Gordon. Yeah, they're a little short for their position, but who cares? They can straight up score in multiple ways and they're both established, athletic wing players. And I would pay above market value for them, more so for Monta. Our lineup:
PG - D. Rose
SG - Ellis or Gordon
C- Kaman
SF - Thornton
PF - EB

On paper, a Livingston/Mayo backcourt sounds great, but injuries and character problems are an issue.

If it came down to Ellis or Gordon. More likely a trade would have to take place to get one of those guys. I wouldn't expect neither the Warriors nor Bulls to just lose those two for nothing. In reality though, we know that either one of them are a long shot to acquire.

True but this is the more realistic lineup especially if Rose slips through our fingertips.
