Draft Express is saying that numerous sources are saying McHale wants to trade down the #3 and get Love. They say there's been talks about a deal with MEM where MIN trades down to #5, and Memphis could offer Minnesota the young prospect of their choice in Kyle Lowry, Hakim Warrick or Javaris Crittenton to help facilitate the deal.

The Clippers can beat that offer.

LAC GIVES: #7 + Tim Thomas + MIN future 1st (top 10 protected until 2012)
LAC GETS: #3 + Jaric

The #3 gets you Mayo, who I think would be a perfect fit, has superstar potential, and would happily stay home and fill seats for you. Jaric is a year longer than Tim Thomas, and while neither is probably worth their contract, at least you guys know that Jaric has his uses.

This was your guys' trade from the board, and Mayo's recent workouts and interviews have probably enhanced his value, but I was curious if this is something the rank-and-file LAC poster is interested in?

Sounds too good to be true. Would be nice but I just don't see it happening.

I don't know, it might be worth it to Minnesota to get that first-round pick back. Even if it is lottery-protected seemingly forever.

If Love is going to be there at 7, then Minnesota may as well go down to 7 and get Love for slightly cheaper.

If the Memphis deal is actually in play, I guess it just depends on what Minnesota thinks of Crittendon.

If we can pull this off it gives us a PG in Jaric. He's not the best but he's decent, especially if he's the backup to Livingston.

So what do we do with Maggette then? Everyone's been talking TJ or Hinrich. Do we resign him and keep him? How does that affect Thornton's pt?

I think if we do this trade we can still trade Maggette or have the Luxury of keeping him. The front court won't be as crowded with TT gone. I don't mind having Jaric back if it means we can get Mayo.

I would love for us to get Mayo or Rose, but Mayo is the one that seems more realistic.

This trade makes too much sense for both sides. Keep OJ in LA!

I don't like the trade because it includes the Minnesota pick. This could be top 3 when the lottery protection expires on it. It would be a decent trade if Minnesota were .500 or better but not with the direction they appear to be headed.

Quite a few mock drafts have Mayo falling to us at #7. It seems Love, Lopez, and even Randolph could go in the top 5. And the Knicks selecting Gallinari at #6. This would be a dream if it were true.

I would love for the Clippers to get OJ Mayo, I root for you guys because I know what it feels like to suck for a long time. It must take guts to be a clippers fan, and it must suck to see laker fan's pack staples for a clippers game (Hell they do it all the way in atlanta). The protection is until 2012. How can anyone tell that any team is going to be that bad in 4-5 years.

Minnesota isn't a good place for a FA to sign and with McHale in charge, they could easily be a high lottery team for the next 4 seasons. Look how long the Clippers have sucked in their past.

The #7 plus the Minnesota #1 is way overpaying for Mayo, this type of trade would only be worth it for Derrick Rose. People in this thread are treating this Minnesota pick like it will be #20 or higher in the 1st round.

To move up for Mayo that pick is totally worth it. You have to wait 'til 2012 for it to be better than 15th. If Minny makes the playoffs once before then it's lower. Those picks rarely (unless they were given out by Isaiah) end up being that high. Look at the ATL pick that Phoenix has had for years. The year they finally get to use it, ATL makes the playoffs. As tough as the WC is right now, where do you see the superpowers being in 4 years. Is Kobe still good? Duncan? Dirk? To move up from 7 in this draft where no one sure who or what to pick with 7 'cause the prospects are all bunched together, and move up to 3 where there's a guy at a spot you need and want and it only costs some crazy 4 years from now pick? That's a slam dunk for the Clips IMO. OF course if there were any GM worth betting on staying in the lottery 'til 2012 it's probably McHale, but I think feeling bad about that trade in 2012 is probably worth the risk.

The Clippers would receive the pick if the Wolves finish lower than 10th overall before 2011. After that it is unconditionally the Clippers pick.

What you are forgetting here is that Mayo isn't a Dwayne Wade or someone like that who was leading his team deep into the NCAA tournament accumulating triple doubles along the way. USC had a first round exit against Kansas St. A lot of mock drafts don't include Mayo in the top 5.

I came back to amend my previous post. Different rumors come out all the time, and I have never heard another word about Love except for on that day. Almost all talk is about Mayo, particularly with the great reports coming from camp. Wolves put the estimates for who they pick at #3 at:

75% Mayo
20% Lopez
5% Somebody else

It would be tough for the Wolves to pass on Mayo, because he'd generate fan interest, and McHale can't afford to trade Mayo away and have him become a star elsewhere.

After all the things I've read this week, I am finding it very unlikely the wolves would trade down the Mayo pick.
