The other potential scenario for the Clippers is a trade. They've been talking to the Suns about a deal that would send Corey Maggette and No. 7 to Phoenix for Leandro Barbosa and No. 15.

So....yeah.

^ That deal can't happen unless Maggette doesn't opt out. Such a trade isn't something I'd expect to be reported on by a legitimate source like ESPN. If somebody nice slides to #15, then I guess it's worth doing it.

If Barbosa can execute the P&R then I'd like to acquire him.

barbosa can run the P&R if eh needs to, but he lacks true PG skill and defence isnt in his play, AT ALL. Maggs + 7 for Barbosa + 15 seems one sided even as a phoenix fan, and its just a pipe dream. But IF it were to happen (consedring such horrible deals never take place in the same conference, let alone division), i would be happy.

I like this trade. The Clippers would do it because they need a good combo guard and they already have a better player in Thornton to replace Maggette. We would be able to concentrate on another need with the Phoenix pick and have more money to sign a FA. I just hope we are able to steal Brumbaugh with our second round pick.

^ I actually like the trade as well. Odds are that Corey will leave either this year or next, and is not a piece we should look to keep in the future. Barbosa is a proven combo guard who can play in our system, and adds some range (something that we need badly). The drop off from 7 to 15 isn't as bad as other drafts. We can still grab a Rush, CDR, Chalmers, or if we are lucky Augustin.

I'm all for this trade.

This trade can't happen before July 1, period. Maggette has until then to decide whether or not to opt out. Players with an ETO on their contracts can't be traded before it expires.

Those happen to be the players I had in mind at the 15 spot.

Exactly, I'd take Rush, CDR or Chalmers(not Lionel ) in a minute.

Barbosa is a real nice player and all but I wouldn't do this deal. We're giving up the most value and our 2 most likely tradeable assets while still not obtaining a legitimate point guard.

Gotta agree.. We need to use Maggz to get a PG (whether it be Ford, Hinrich, etc), and keep the pick for SG depth..

If you take out the 7th pick, the trade would be alot better.

Toronto guy here. It sure looks one-sided from an outsider's perspective. Barbosa 'didn't play that well to close the season. He's such a streaky shooter, which is fine off the the bench.

Obviously, to get Maggette we're peddling TJ Ford (last year PER = 20), and we have the 17th, but I would never expect to get both CM and the 7th for that package without having to take TT's contract as well, and then it gets complicated.

I don't like the drop from 7 to 15. I don't really think that Barbosa is really going to help us. He is a streaky shooter and he's not a true PG. I really hope this trade doesn't happen.

I think considering the fact that Maggz would be resigned at a much higher price the package is probably Maggz+7 for Barbosa+Diaw+15. Not that I like that deal, I don't, but I imagine it's closer to that. IMO it should be Maggz+2009 protected 1st for Barbs, Diaw, and the 15. Then package 15 and 7 plus maybe Minny future for Mayo.

That sounds more like it. Although at 15, I don't think there's any PG's worth taking that high. Augustin will most certainly be gone by then, which leaves us with Chalmers as probably the next best, but he's a reach.

I'm just anxious to see what happens in a couple days, I just hope it comes out in our favor.

Ford says in his latest chat the he talked to the Clippers and the Clippers told him that deal wasn't going to happen, so it looks likewe're safe.

clip34life, that deal you came up with is more of a joke than what chad ford said. Corey + a PROTECTED pick for diaw, barbosa, AND 15th. We get nothing out of this but Corey because the pick will not come to us for some years and we loose 3 assests. Not to mention that this isnt close to fair value, not that i think barbs + 15 for corey + 7 is fair to you guys, but come on. That deal is ridiculous man..

It is a mute point because even if Maggette was signed to contract starting at 10 million per season, it wouldn't work under the salary cap.
