The Minnesota Timberwolves aren't holding onto O.J. Mayo for long.

Two league sources told ESPN.com that the Wolves have reached an agreement in principle with the Memphis Grizzlies that will send the draft rights of Mayo, Marko Jaric, Antoine Walker and Greg Buckner to the Grizzlies in return for the draft rights to Kevin Love, Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal and Jason Collins.

The deal is a blockbuster for both teams. ESPN.com reported on Tuesday that the Wolves GM Kevin McHale was infatuated with Love, but felt that the team had to select Mayo and use him to acquire more assets.

In addition to landing Love, the Wolves get a sharp-shooting swingman in Miller who can help carry the scoring load from the perimeter. The deal is also a financial boon for the Timberwolves who get the bad contract of Jaric (three years, $21 million) off the books. Walker and Buckner's contracts are not guaranteed after this season.

It's tough to give up Miller but getting Mayo & Lima is definitely something to be happy about. They also traded for Arthur. I think it was a very productive draft for the Grizz.

Now that Mike Miller is on MIN, do you think we have a better shot at getting him?

How about Mobley + 2009 #1. The salaries match so they'll just be picking up an extra pick. Think they'll go for it?

Or how about TT, Knight + 2009 #1. This gives saves them about $3mil by not having Brevin for the second year.

We'd probably have to also throw Minnesota their pick back also in either trade as well as our own pick. Minny would probably prefer the second trade.

Why draft Gordon then still go after M&M?

When I heard about the trade, I thought "Isn't this an offer LAC could have beaten to get OJ Mayo?"

MIN would have picked Love at #4, so all you'd have to beat out was Mike Miller + Cardinal (2 yr) + Collins (exp) for Jaric (3 yr) + $13 mil in expirings.

It seems to me LAC would have gotten so much more out of Mayo, and have known he'd never opt out on you.

To respond to your other posters, I don't think that Mike Miller would be easier to acquire now that he's on the Wolves. I dislike the fact that he may step in front of McCants if Brewer starts (though that is not a foregone conclusion), but Miller brings two things that the wolves want. First, McHale said they were too young last year and needed somebody a little older to be a calming presence. Second, Miller is from South Dakota and grew up rooting for the Wolves. He wouldn't be scared of the cold, and in fact, in the midwest, Minneapolis is kind of cultural mecca.

I'd like to trade Miller, and I might do the second deal, but I don't think McHale would.
