Brand Joins Corey

Post#1 » by livingston2kaman » Tue Jul 1, 2008 1:37 am

Clippers forward Elton Brand joined teammate Corey Maggette today in opting out of the final season of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent.

I don't see him sticking around personally, but hope I'm just being a pessimistic fan. Roesers ignorant senile ass better do something.

I'm glad he's doing it now so we don't have to go through this next year. I'm confident we'll re-sign him in the next couple of days and get EB locked up for a long time.

Baron's ordering his agent to work fast and find out if he can get a deal out of the clips if he opts out tonight...

According to Adande, he plans to re-sign with the Clipps sooner rather than later and his intentions are to stay with the Clipps.

If Baron opts out too, we can sign Baron with the close to $20 million in cap space, then use Brand's bird rights to sign him to whatever he wants and still make it work and get both on the team. That would be incredible.

I was very happy to see that. I'm glad Elton is going to get his money, and it better be Sterling's money! According to Steven A., the Sixers are afraid to commit to Brand long-term. It doesn't look like we will even have that much competition to sign EB.

I hate to get my hopes up so for now I'll assume you're messing with us. But damn, I want to believe you. I'm not saying I don't believe you, but what city does Baron live in anyway?

I would be in Clipper heaven if we landed both Brand and Baron.

So you're saying it's possible for us to sign Brand and Davis and let Maggette go? :o :o

It is absoulutely possible. And our payroll would hardly be more than it was last year assuming we let Corey walk for nothing.

Man Baylor better make the right decision...if he loses Brand and re-signs Maggette long term I'm going to explode.

"We're opting out," Brand said. "It definitely doesn't mean I'm leaving the Clippers. We're trying to work it out. My intention is to stay."

"It preserves options to make the team better," Falk said. "Clearly, if Elton decided he wanted to simply max out the dollars, he would have stayed in the deal, had a monster year and a lot more teams will have cap room next year."

On Monday, Brand sounded interested in staying in Los Angeles. He has branched out into film production (his first movie, "Rescue Dawn," was released last year) and his wife is expecting a son in October.

"Right now it's just trying to solidify my future and work things out with the Clippers," Brand said. "I've got a lot of going on."

LA actually won't be able to use Brand's bird rights, but they won't have to. If the cap stayed the same this year, the Clippers would have slightly over $25 million in cap space. That's enough money to sign both to deal similar to the one Gilbert just got from Washington if that's how far Sterling is willing to go.

Davis has opted out right after brand did and the logical theory would be both will be clippers and as a sixer fan I am very envious of that

I haven't been able to keep my eyes on the news today but it's going back in forth on what would have been best for us and with him opting out now rather than later we have a better chance to re-sign him. Then I get home and read that Baron just opted out...Come on Elgin let's make it happen!!

Return to Los Angeles Clippers
