Brand to GSW, Josh Smith to LAC?
What if EB decided that $20 million more was just too much to pass up and did indeed decide to sign with the Warriors? Well, what if Elgin Baylor turned around and offered Brands money to Josh Smith? A lineup like this would be pretty darn good as well:
pg: Baron Davis
sg: Eric Gordon
sf: Al Thornton
pf: Josh Smith
C: Kaman
Younger and more athletic. What do y'all think? Thanks

if brand goes to golden state(which would be funny as hell) then you have to make a run at smith. philly is reportedly gonna get offered 5/67 a milli. so you probably have to offer 70 a milli.

Thornton and Smith both play SF so this acquistion appears to be suspect even if EB decides to play small ball in "The Bay"

Smith plays PF, he guarded KG during the playoffs. Since Kaman is a low post player having him and Smith up front would make a heck of a team

I don't feel confident with Josh Smith guarding Western Conf. PF's tho!

^^ kamon would guard the best post player between the pf/c position. so kamon would guard tim duncan, shaq, etc. smith will guard amare and nowkitski.

^ No way Josh wins those matchup's. I'd rather take my chances with EB.

If Brand seriously wants to leave, then let him. I say throw all the money we can at Josh Smith, he's a freak, 23 years old and one of the best blocking & stealing PF in the league.

Re: Brand to GSW, Josh Smith to LAC?
Josh Smith would make us athletic but we need a real PF. Smith is able to play PF in the East and for the Hawks, but I don't think it would work very well in the west. If we did get Smith then we'd be playing small ball and we'd have to change our whole style of play.

I'd rather have Brand, who is one of the best PFs in the league...not just blocking and stealing. Josh Smith is a great young player, but clearly cannot match the skill on offense like Brand.

Yeah, what Corgi said. Are you seriously a Clipper fan if you say, "let EB leave, we'll just throw all the dough at Josh Smith!" What the heck bro? There's no way J. Smith could cut it in the West. And no way is he worth EB-type money. He'd be a nice fit in Philly, not here.

You're seriously underestimating JS's talent. The dude is 22 and is putting up 17,8 and 3. You say, that's against the East (which the NBA champ came from need I remind you).Look at his numbers against the west. I can only guess that since he's all the way on the other side of the country you don't know anything about him. A combo of Al and JS at the 3 and 4 would be crazy athletic, best in the NBA. Look at his #'s, study them, then admit you were wrong:

josh smith has maybe the worst jumpshot in the nba. Brand is a much greater offensive threat, plus he's a leader in the locker room

JJ isn't saying Smith's a bad player, even said he'd be a good fit in Philly. And after signing Baron Davis, it makes absolutely no sense to choose Smith over Brand. Clippers want to win now. Tell me Josh Smith gives the Clippers a better chance to win now and I'll admit you're wrong.

Re: Brand to GSW, Josh Smith to LAC?
I am not trying to argue with you. I think Josh Smith is a very good young player (and he is a lefty like me). On the other hand, I think you are underestimating Elton Brand's talent. I do know the numbers. Elton Brand for his CAREER averages 20+ points per game, and 10+ rebounds per game, and also has a career shooting percentage of .505. Now, we'll take Josh Smith's best year (last year) to compare him against Elton's CAREER AVERAGES. Josh Smith averaged 17.2 ppg (three less than Elton), 8.2 rpg (two less than elton), shot .457 from the field (.048 less than Elton), has a lower free throw percentage than Elton, and averages more turnovers per game. Elton Brand is much more efficient even though he commands double teams when he has the ball in the post. On the plus side for Josh Smith: averages maybe a half assist more than Elton, almost one block more than Elton, and half a steal more than Elton's career average.
The numbers don't lie, and Elton has been putting them up for years. Josh Smith has had two pretty good years, and even those years don't match up to Elton's career averages.
Blocks and steals are great for fantasy basketball, but they don't always mean a better defensive basketball player. Look at Allen Iverson. He is almost a lock to lead the league in steals, but there aren't too many people that would say he's a good defender. He loves to cheat off his man which equates to more steals.
So do you really believe that Elton Brand and Josh Smith are on the same level of play as far as NBA power forwards are concerned? Or are you saying that Josh Smith has the potential to become one of the dominant power forwards similar to Elton Brand?

Re: Brand to GSW, Josh Smith to LAC?
Guys,
Seriously please go back and read my op. I said if EB chose the GSW deal we should go after Josh Smith hard with a ton of cash. I never said JS was better then EB, Elton is one of my favorite players in the NBA plus he's a good character guy. I was just stating the best possible outcome to a worst case scenario. Please read what I wrote. I still think JS is a stud, though.

If GS/Philly grab Brand/Smith respectively. Which I personally doubt will happen because EB is a loyal guy. But nevertheless, hypothetically if such a scenario presents itself.
Would you be open to a trade like this:
Zach + Lee + Robinson for Mobley + Thomas + filler(Jordan and/or pick)
Kaman
Z-Bo
Thornton
Gordon
Baron
Lee would be able to back up C-PF-SF positions while Nate could also share to floor with Baron or Gordon.
Mobley and Thomas would be good fits in D'Antoni's system for the Knicks.

Zach Randolph is just a bigger version of Tim Thomas, attitude-wise. I don't know if I could stand a "I really don't give a ****" attitude in a big man.

I have to disagree with you. Isn't blocking and stealing, two of the best things to have when you're causing turnovers? B-Diddy, Al Thornton & Josh Smith would be running and dunking all over people. It'd be a good move towards the future if Elton Brand is going to bolt to the Warriors. Personally, I say let him. I like the prospect of Josh Smith on this team and trading Cuttino Mobley for someone like Jamal Crawford that rumors have been suggesting. They'd be a playoff contending team.
