What about trading for Lamar Odom?
If the Clippers cannot sign Josh Smith or Emeka Okafor. Why not offer an enticing deal to the Lakers to get them under the Luxury Tax by taking on the last year of Lamar Odom's contract? I think him and Baron Davis would be a very good tandem.

There's no player on the clippers that I would trade Lamar for. Lakers are looking for a natural SF, that's why there have been rumors that they've already called the Kings about a trade for Artest.

Lamar doesn't want to play for the Clippers. If he did we would have resigned him back in the days before he went to the Heat. The whole "I won't play good if you resign me" isn't exactly a good sign when wanting to match the heat's offer.

L-O is a tremendous talent but not right for this team at the moment.
FYI: I'll personally carjack Sterling if we offer up Thornton to the Lakes in exchange for an ex-Clip.

Why would we trade Lamar for Thornton? No way. The Clippers are much better off keeping Thornton, and then using the free cap space to try to find a FA. (and I like Lamar BTW)

Re: What about trading for Lamar Odom?
I don't really want Lamar, but I think we could make a deal for him...and it wouldn't cost us much. Its not a bad business decision either.
A couple of options:
1. TT straight up for Odom.
2. Mobley for Odom.
Why?
The Lakers are way over the salary cap. Sasha and Turiaf are most likely not going to resign because they can't. Turiaf was supposedly offered $4+ per year from GS, the Lakers just don't have cap space.
The point is to get rid of Odom's $14 mil and make room to resign their guys. If they take TT, they have an extra $9mil in cap space. They could sign both Turiaf and Sasha.
If they take Mobley, they gain about $5mil in space. Enough to sign Turiaf. And with Mobley, he could fill the role as spot up shooter, so no need to sign Sasha. The problem here is Mobley is older and will earn $18 over 2 years. (Vs. Odom's $14 for 1.)
When Bynum comes back they just slide Gasol over to PF and still have Turiaf (and possibly TT) as backup forwards.
Laker fans would hate either move, but what options do they have? The deals are really this:
1. TT, Turiaf, Sasha for Odom.
2. Mobley, Turiaf for Odom.

dont think Lakers are that desperate to get rid of Odom for TT/Mobley. They would be more inclined to just let him expire then take either one of those 2.

Its not about TT or Mobley. Its about resigning their own players.
If they lose both Turiaf and Sasha, what kind of a bench are they going to have?

well incase you haven't heard they're rumored to be offering to trade for Artest...in addition its not like they CANT resign them its a matter of if they want too and how much they're willing to go over the cap.

Good luck getting Artest.
Turiaf is going to sign the offer sheet today. The Lakers won't be able to match it and you lose a key reserve.

Re: What about trading for Lamar Odom?
there would be zero chance lakers dump odom for the 2 yr contracts of mobley or thomas considering andrew bynum's extension will kick in next yr. it would actually make more financial sense to keep odom, turiaf, and sasha and just let odom go after this yr.

Re: What about trading for Lamar Odom?
I think the Lakers are willing to go over the salary cap to retain players. They may or may not keep Turiaf, but I don't think they are going to try to shed other salaries to match on Turiaf. They don't need to be under the cap to match offers to Turiaf and Vujovic, do they? (besides having to pay luxury tax.)
I also just don't think it's a great trade for us. We would actually lose some cap space that we could use to try to sign someone better, to get a guy that is a one year rental. And Lamar Odom isn't really a difference maker on this team.
If our whole goal is to try to shed a 2-year contract, I guess then it would make sense. But TT and Cutino's contracts are mostly just annoying than anything else, they don't make that much money.
