Brevin Knight traded for Jason Hart

Post#1 » by skEwb » Wed Jul 23, 2008 10:22 pm

The Utah Jazz announced today that the team has acquired veteran point guard Brevin Knight from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for guard Jason Hart. Originally selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round (16th overall pick) of the 1997 NBA Draft, Knight (5-10, 170, Stanford) has appeared in 655 career regular season games (423 starts) over 11 NBA seasons with Cleveland, Atlanta, Memphis, Phoenix, Washington, Milwaukee, Charlotte and the Clippers, owning career averages of 7.9 points, 6.6 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.77 steals per game. He appeared in 74 games (39 starts) this past season with the Clippers, averaging 4.6 points, 4.4 assists and 1.35 steals in 22.6 minutes. Knight ranked second in the NBA in assists-per-turnover (4.62), and third in steals per turnover (2.87).

I like it, Clips keep getting better, good job!

I don't mind the trade. I think both sides improve from it. Hart played better for us than he did in Utah last season, and Utah gets a solid backup PG.

Random trade. I loved Brevin's defense though, so I'm a little irked to see him leave, but J-Hart was good to us when he was here too.

If he comes back and plays as he did 2 seasons ago then I like the move. Brevin is a bit more of a sure thing when he's actually playing, but injuries have been an issue throughout his career. Hart should be more durable for us. Hart is back home and playing for a contract again, so hopefully he'll step up and provide us decent play off the bench.

I would think Hart played bad enough last year to merit the Jazz giving the Clippers at least a 2nd round pick to get rid of him. I'm personally more comfortable with Knight as the team's pack PG rather than Hart.

I thought Knight's quickness would have been an excellent compliment to Baron Davis' strength from the PG position. Then again, Knight is old and has a long history of injury. Moving BK before the season could turn out to be a smart move in case he has another injury riddled season.

Neither player can score. Knight is more under control, but Hart is more likely to remain healthy. I guess this trade gets an Incomplete until we see if Hart can produce. What I do know is that Jerry Sloan is very happy right now.

Knight has been known to be a minor pain in the locker room so maybe that was a consideration.

I thought Knight would be a good compliment to Baron as well. We'll see if Hart can turn it around.

What next... Powell for Melvin Ely?

Hart is just a better fit for our team. Plus he gives more our backcourt more size. 6'3" vs. 5'10"? No contest. Plus he's a decent defender. Welcome back!

Seems like a change of scenery might do both players some good. I really liked how Brevin played hard even through injuries and never complained. He always brought tough D, even though he was limited by his size. His assist to turnover ratio was great, and he also got a lot of steals. He seemed like he was getting more comfortable near the end of the season, and would occasionally hit the open 15 footer.

Hart has more size and seemed ok while he was here the first time around, I hope he brings a spark off the bench.

Hart is my sentimental favorite here. Plus he's taller and younger.

I think we get karma points for bringing back the hometown guy. Even if the rest is a relative wash, that alone makes it a WIN.

Hart will probably fill-in until Eric Gordon can properly utilize himself at PG. I say the team goes out and signs Jamaal Magloire with our starters and a bench of Gordon, Azubuike, Thomas & Magloire we'd win some tough close games. But I think the Clips will probably go with signing Paul Davis to a minimum deal.

Clippers 2008-09:
PG - B. Davis/J. Hart/M. Taylor
SG - C. Mobley/E. Gordon/N. Fazekas
SF - A. Thornton/T. Thomas/K. Azubuike
PF - M. Camby/J. Powell/M. Williams
C - C. Kaman/D. Jordan/P. Davis

15-Man Roster, pretty solid. I think we can compete for the 8th seed, maybe the 7th seed if we go above expectations. I'm hoping for LA Clippers against LA Lakers in the 1st round next year!

Yay, welcome back Jason Hart. I really wanted to see Brevin Knight lead that second squad though, but like others have already said, Jason Hart offers more size and had a little bit of luck with us before, so all is good.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that. From what I've seen, Gordon has zero makings of a PG.

I like Hart better than Brevin just for the fact that he can actually shoot. Brevin's D is great but you know he's injury prone and considering Baron is too, this is a good move.

FIXED

P.Davis, Livingston and Ross are still in limbo but I hope we keep Q on the team for added depth @ SG/SF

I'm always a total sucker for the sentimental favorite, and I liked Jason Hart as a Clipper anyway and remember feeling bad for him when he expressed disappointment at being let go. So, welcome home, Jason!

I'm fine with the trade, especially if Hart performs like he did a couple seasons ago when he was a Clipper.

LOL the irony of how two teams win in trading players of the same position.

Well, I wish we would have atleast waited until after we find out what Golden State is gonna do with Azubuike. If they match this takes away a little bit of our available cap.

I can see the reason for the trade. considering that both Davis and Knight have history of injuries. The Clips couldn't afford to chance it if both happen to get injured nearly at the same time. With Hart, he's a decent reliable PG who plays within his role and doesn't have issues with injuries. Good trade Clips.
