Clippers Withdraw Qualifying Offer to Nick Fazekas
Roster Currently Stands At 12, Including Eight New Players

The Los Angeles Clippers today announced that the team and forward Nick Fazekas have agreed to the withdrawal of the teams qualifying offer dated June 25, making Fazekas an unrestricted free agent.

Signed by the Clippers as a free agent on March 18, Fazekas appeared in 26 games last season for Los Angeles, averaging 4.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.4 assists in 10.3 minutes.

The Clippers roster now stands at 12 players after the most recent signing of forward Brian Skinner on July 31, as Los Angeles has revamped its roster by adding a total of eight new players for the 2008-09 season.

I don't know how much room this frees up, but could we actually go for another FA signing?!? This is madness. I liked Fazekas, but I'd rather have Marcus Williams. I really don't know what's going on right now, this offseason has been one surprise after another. Let's hope for another good one!

Wow 8 new players. It really does make you wonder how our chemistry will be. The only ones coming back are Kaman, Thornton, Mobley, and Thomas. Will be quite an exciting season to see how things develop. :)

hopefully we can re-sign livingston and if not livingston then ross or even cassell.

im not that worried about chemistry. the clippers have all good guys coming in. baron davis and marcus camby are both class acts. the rockets will probably have a harder time with chemistry since artest and yao are already fighting and artest is a very controversial player. everyone new to the clippers this year has said only good things in the press conference. and 3 of the 8 new guys are rookies so they will be easier to control.

That would be my guess. Fazekas is a very servicable third string center. Unless there is another player the Clippers are waiting to sign, this move makes no sense to me. With the roster down to only twelve players now, you gotta believe there are more moves coming.

Would the Clippers do Camby and Al Thorton for Josh Smith? Or just Camby and a pick?

I say this because Camby is miscast in LA as PF or back up center.

Camby is a perfect PF and he has played PF in his career. and are you kidding with the camby and thornton for smith trade? i think thornton himself is more valuable to the clips than smith.

Camby can rebound, defend and hit the mid-range jumper just like a PF. No reason for us to bring an undersized J-Smoove to the team.

BTW
Current 08/09 squad:

PG- B.Davis/Hart/Taylor*/Livingston*
SG- Mobley/Gordon/Ross*
SF- Thornton/R.Davis/M.Willams*
PF- Camby/Skinner/T.Thomas
C- Kaman/D.Jordan/P.Davis*

* players not signed/re-signed yet

I'm pretty sure we signed Mike Taylor, same time we signed D. Jordan

I think you misunderstand me, would the Clipper front office make that move?

IMO at his age I would much rather have Camby defending centers on the block.

To me his strength is rebounding, defending his man, and helping around the basket defense.

I would not want him night after night having to go iso 15 feet to 20 feet from the basket against Dirk, David West, Aldridge, KG, Boozer, Brand, Bosh, Amare, Zach Randolph, Rasheed Wallace, Beasley, Jamison, Duncan, Jefferson, Gasol.

We now have around 1.46M under the cap to work with. I am hoping that Livingston will be signed sooner than later.

According to Sham from shamsports.com, the Clippers have only around $70,000 in cap space after signing Skinner and dumping Fazekas, and that's not including Marcus Williams. As it stands, the Clippers can only sign free agents to the veteran minimum. Losing Fazekas without any salary cap benefits is puzzling to me, but my best guess is there is another veteran big man on his way to the Clippers who Bayleavy is clearing minutes for. It could be anyone from Lorenzen Wright to Jamaal Magloire. I'm just speculating, but that's the only scenario I can think of that justifies rescinding Fazekas' QO.

The Clippers have $57,270,115 commited, with a cap of $58,680,000. That;s $1,409,885 remaining.

It could have been over $2.5 million if the Hart trade hadn't been made, and if Gordon, Taylor and Jordan hadn't yet been signed. But noooooooooooo.

Ha, I don't get it either. Dunleavy must have wanted to make sure all the rookies make it on next years NBA Live.

$1.4 million should be enough to get Magloire. Magloire for Fazekas is a swap I'd be happy with.

magloire is horrible. just ask nets and mavs fans. he may seem like he can do well, but he is just horrible. id much rather sign livingston and have him getting playing time instead of using the money to have magloire rot on the bench. i wish we hadnt have done that hart/knight trade now. id rather have hart than knight if hart plays like he did 2 years ago for the clips but if that money is the difference between signing livingston and not signing him i dont like the trade.

Why would you still want Ross on the team? He's only gonna take minutes away from Thornton, R. Davis, Mobley, and Gordon. It's not worth it.
